The upgrade from WinXS to AEOS will provide the police force with a number of practical and technological advantages
With the introduction of smart card technology, the police force will be able to implement a single sign on IT strategy

The UK police force is already familiar with Nedap technology, as it has been working with Nedap’s former access control system WinXS and Nedap cards for more than 10 years.

However, with nearly 2000 police officers; almost 300 special constables and over 200 police community support officers to enforce the law for a population of nearly 1.1 million people, the police force decided the time was right to upgrade to the highly advanced AEOS architecture.

Centrally managed local access control

The upgrade from WinXS to AEOS will provide the police force with a number of practical and technological advantages. The scalable AEOS architecture makes it possible to create a custom-fit solution through the use of simple software components. Thanks to AEOS software components, AEOS can be adjusted at any required time with whatever required features. This makes AEOS simpler, more flexible and very user-friendly, while maintaining a high grade of security.

The objective of implementing the new AEOS security management platform is to give the police force the possibility to easily manage estate-wide access control throughout the police department, including control of barriers at key locations. With the AEOS Single Server Multi Site solution, the police force is able to centrally manage access control at all police stations in the county, but to control them locally.

One-card solution for physical and logical access

With the introduction of smart card technology, the police force will also be able to implement a single sign on IT strategy and create a one-card solution for physical and logical access. This means that a person can only log on to his computer if he has entered the building by presenting his authorised access badge. This increases security significantly, as identities contained in AEOS and corporate IT directories are mapped, enabling a converged policy for allowing or denying network access.
