ComNet Europe Ltd of Leeds in the United Kingdom, a USA-based manufacturer and a leading provider of fibre optic and Ethernet network solutions has introduced a new eighteen port hardened managed Ethernet switch. The ComNet CNGE2FE16MS is an environmentally hardened Managed Ethernet Switch that is compliant with UL standards EN60950-1 and UL Class 1, Division 2, Groups A, B, C and D for Hazardous Locations. This is the first switch from ComNet that meets the standards set for use in industrial applications where concentrations of flammable gases, vapours, or dusts occur. The all-new CNGE2FE16MS makes available sixteen copper 10/100 Mbps TX ports and two Gigabit optical FX ports that utilise easily interchangeable small form factor pluggable optic (SFP) devices as optical interfaces. Exclusive to this new generation of ComNet managed Ethernet switches is ComRing. ComRing is the latest network recovery technology that allows the network to re-route transmission in the event of a network interruption in under 30 milliseconds.
ComNet has established itself as a leader in transmission equipment for harsh environments. Meeting these new US standards continues to reinforce that position.
“The CNGE2FE16MS offers many very significant features,” states Steve Clarke, ComNet Europe Managing Director. “The fact that this switch meets these rigorous UL standards attests to the ruggedness ComNet builds into these switches. We see the potential for these switches in the Industrial Automation market as well as the ITS and Security markets where they are currently offered,” Clarke concluded.
Like all ComNet products, the CNGE2FE16MS is backed with a lifetime warranty.
“With the introduction this new switch, we are just continuing to round out what is a very complete Ethernet product line,” said Skip Haight, ComNet VP of Marketing. “As Ethernet has established itself as the preferred transmission standard, we’ve identified a number of other markets where our products, with minor design modifications, can be used. Meeting these new UL standards gives us an entry into the Industrial Automation market,” Haight continued.
