Pan Tilt remote camera BU-45H and BU-50H manufactured by Canon is the recipient of a 2008 STAR (Superior Technology Award Recipient) Award given by the editorial staff of TV Technology Europe magazine at the 2008 IBC convention.

The STAR Award (Superior Technology Award Recipient) is designed to celebrate and showcase the preeminent technological innovations available to the broadcast industry. TV Technology Europe's editor reviewed a variety of products, examined the technical applications and their overall contribution to the industry, and then chose 25 winners.

"STAR awards are given to interesting new products that help a user save money or accomplish a task in an easier way," said Mark Hallinger, Editor of TV Technology Europe. "The products selected help advance the industry----some were chosen because of technical novelty or innovation, some because they filled an important gap in the production or transmission chain, and some because they were just cool products."

About the new Canon BU-45H and BU-50H Pan Tilt systems:

The Canon BU-45H is an outdoor remote control pan- tilt camera which provides superb HD footage in such broadcast situations as weather forecasting, concerts and sporting events, or news outside key locations, with a 20x high-performance optical zoom video lens. The BU-50H, which offers similar performance, is an extremely quiet system with a maximum noise level of NC30. So it is very well suited for operation in a quiet environment - conference, lecture or classical concert.

Multiple interface possibilities

Both systems enable HD/SD-SDI output that supports non-compressed output such as embedded audio. As HD-SDI signal and SD signal (VBS) can be output simultaneously, the HD-SDI can be used as the main line system and the SD signal as a monitoring system. Frame rate can be set to 50i and 25F. Moreover, thanks to the onboard GENLOCK function, the image system can work in sync.

Flexible

The systems' protocol is non-proprietary. So the system integrator can provide their own control system with minimal effort - using the new OP-300 control unit for Canon PTZ cameras - as the control interface RS-422/ RS-232C (either one of them can be applied) is already installed: or use the system of a third party provider.
