The SALTO i-Locker electronic locker lock
Smart locks from SALTO Systems are playing a key role in securing sports facilities at the NUI Maynooth
The University, with over 9,000 students from more than 20 countries, is currently in the midst of an ambitious building programme which will see the library more than double in size, the addition of a new Humanities and Social Sciences Building and new on-campus accommodation increasing the current stock by 50% due to increasing demand.

Sports facilities are outstanding and the Sports Centre located on the North Campus, includes a sports hall for basketball, volleyball, badminton, indoor hockey and five-a-side soccer. The hall is overlooked by a viewing balcony which is equipped with cardio vascular equipment, including three concept II rowers, two bikes, three treadmills, two steppers and two ab-stations. A new small sports hall has also been added to the Sports Centre as part of a recent extension, and many fitness and martial arts sessions now take place in this venue.

The University wanted a secure and flexible access control system to provide advanced locker security within the Sports Centre and selected a system from SALTO Systems.

Stephen Foley of SALTO's Irish distributor Doorware Ltd comments "We carried out a survey of the site and listened carefully to the needs of the centre staff. From what they told us we recommended the SALTO i-Locker electronic locker lock which is specifically designed to provide a high level of security protection for lockers.

The i-Locker features a large twist operated locking handle for ease of use, even with wet hands, and its durable wipe clean construction is resistant to most chemicals to ensure a long lasting, smart appearance. The access reader is built into the outside of the handle while the locking mechanism, electronic components and battery pack are all located on the inside of the locker door, safe from potential manipulation or vandalism.

NUI is pleased with the security offered by the SALTO i-Locker access control system

A useful feature is that students can use their general ID for several applications in addition to opening the locker, and these can include general access control and cashless payment functions if required. With management audit trailing and timed access built into the lock, the i-Locker lock provides an intelligent solution for high performance locker security in a versatile easy to fit package."

Paul Davis from the Sports Office at the National University of Ireland says: "We're pleased with the security offered by the SALTO i-Locker access control system. It ensures our students can enjoy their sport safe in the knowledge that their personal possessions are secure."
