Sony's new SNT-EX/EP series of video encoders will help with the integration of analogue and IP
Sony's new SNT-EX/EP series of video encoders will help users integrate analogue and IP
Sony recently reaffirmed its commitment to helping customers move from analogue to IP technology. Announcing the launch of the new SNT-EX/EP Series of video encoders, Sony brings a true hybrid offering to market that allows users to seamlessly integrate analogue and IP.

Significantly the new range makes it possible for anyone using an analogue system to access the image improvements normally associated with IP technology. Sony's latest image enhancing VE and XDNR technology improves the picture quality of the original signals, while enabling the conversion of analogue video signals to a digital video stream for IP-based networks. Critically this encourages seamless integration when migrating from an existing analogue camera system to an IP-based monitoring system, while improving overall user experience. Access to IP is further improved through the choice of 1-channel and 4-channel standalone models and 1U and 3U Rack Stations that accept 4-channel blades and all of the encoders can dual-stream H.264/JPEG, H.264/MPEG-4, or MPEG-4/JPEG video at full resolution.

As Simon Nash, Head of Video Security, Sony Professional, Europe, explains; "Anyone who is using an analogue system can now benefit from IP image enhancement capabilities. We wanted to offer all customers access to the improved image quality associated with IP and encourage the transition from analogue to IP, but in the current economic climate not all businesses have the means to make this shift immediately. By migrating to the SNT-EX/EP range of encoders, XDNR performance can be added to any existing cameras."

"We wanted to offer all customers access to the improved image quality associated with IP and encourage the transition from analogue to IP"

Video surveillance technology has traditionally struggled to deliver high quality images in the challenging lighting conditions created by extreme contrast. Sony's unique Visibility Enhancer (VE) technology effectively overcomes this issue by dynamically monitoring signal levels in during image capture and processing. This technique reduces the extreme levels of brightness within the scene and critically increases light levels in the darker areas, improving overall image quality and clarity.

While image capture in difficult lighting conditions is further improved through the XDNR (eXcellent Dynamic Noise Reduction) technology also built into the new range. Increased image noise levels resulting from signal amplification and image ghosting caused by slow shutter speeds are common problems when recording CCTV footage in a low light environment. Using advanced 2DNR and 3DNR signal processing methods, the XDNR technology removes random and fixed noise, and in turn, eliminates the motion blur that creates ‘ghosting'.

The offering is completed by Sony's unique DEPA Advanced intelligent video and audio analytics. This delivers greater intelligence to analogue cameras while offering other features such as improved security. When combined with ONVIF compliance the SNT-EX/EP Series offers users flexibility when achieving superior image quality.
