The council bases its awards upon a nominee’s exhibited leadership in the security industry

Tyco Security Products, part of Tyco, the world’s largest pure-play fire protection and security company, announced recently that Irene Lam, Vice President of R&D and Engineering for Tyco Security Products, has been recognised as a winner of the 2015 Women of the Year award by the Women’s Security Council, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to ensuring the professional success of women working in the physical security industry. Lam was recognised with the award at a special reception held April 14, in conjunction with ISC West, Las Vegas, Nevada.

About Irene Lam

The council bases its awards upon a nominee’s exhibited leadership in the security industry and within an organisation, in addition to contributions made to business and local communities. As Vice President of R&D and Engineering for Tyco Security Products, Lam leads a 500-person department responsible for the full life-cycle of product development across the company’s portfolio of access control, video surveillance, intrusion and location-based technology. She also oversees eight development centers located across the globe. Lam is one of ten women to receive this year’s Woman of the Year award.

“Tyco Security Products is a strong advocate of encouraging the role of women in technology,” said Mike Ryan, president of Tyco Security Products. “Irene is an ideal role model for many in our company as she embodies the very qualities that we value most as a company: ingenuity, commitment and perseverance. She is most deserving of this recognition.”

Employee mentoring programme:

Lam is also actively involved in Tyco Security Products’ mentoring programme providing support to current employees to help them identify and achieve their professional goals. In addition, she is actively involved in Tyco’s Women’s Growth Network, an initiative charged with promoting female growth within the organisation and encouraging more women to seek technical roles within the company, such as product management, R&D and engineering. In addition to its mentoring and growth initiatives, Tyco Security Products has supported and participated in such events as the All Girl Challenge, a two-day youth creativity marathon, and the Massachusetts Women’s Conference.
