The City of Pittsboro Police Department deploys a civic surveillance system using Avigilon's HD surveillance system
Proxim Wireless Corporation, a leading provider of complete outdoor wireless backhaul systems, recently announced that the City of Pittsboro Police Department located in Pittsboro, Indiana, has deployed a Civic Surveillance system, using the Proxim Wireless Tsunami® MP-8100 series radios and antennas and Avigilon’s innovative high-definition surveillance system, to the City’s intersections and parks for increased safety and security of its residents.

Pittsboro, Indiana is a community located in Middle Township, Hendricks County, approximately 20 miles northwest of Indianapolis. The town was founded in 1834 and originally named Pittsborough which was later changed. With a 2010 population of 3,743, the City has grown 68%+ over the past 10 years. To support this growth, they needed surveillance of critical intersections and infrastructures to protect the city from incidents of vandalism, evidence of unauthorised access, and other threats to valuable assets.

Proxim’s unique Tsunami® MP-8100 series radio and antenna solutions were selected to provide the City with the necessary bandwidth to support existing and additional surveillance including projected future requirements. AllthingsIT, Proxim’s integration partner, worked closely with the City to analyse the best solution to meet its current and future needs. After an extensive RFP process, the City selected Proxim’s equipment and Avigilon’s HD surveillance solution, as both were the only providers that could meet its demands for high security, scalability, and cost efficiency. With the encouragement and training provided by AllthingsIT, the City was able to save considerable costs by self-installing the radios and cameras using its available city resources.

The surveillance system has been deployed throughout Pittsboro and delivers a scalable, high quality, low bandwidth solution that provides cost savings to the City’s maintenance department. In conjunction with Proxim, Avigilon, and the assistance of AllthingsIT, the civic surveillance system is an effective solution capable of meeting the unique requirements of America’s small towns.

“We are grateful for the highly capable equipment solution that Proxim has delivered to Pittsboro which enhances safety through increased security across our City,” commented Lt. Scott A.

“The solution we provided is a great example of how Proxim can economically deliver highly scalable systems for small and mid-sized communities across the United States,”

King of the Pittsboro Police Department. “The solution was delivered not only in a timely manner, but cost effectively allowing us to save money across our entire surveillance system while experiencing increased quality and bandwidth.”

“The solution we provided is a great example of how Proxim can economically deliver highly scalable systems for small and mid-sized communities across the United States,” added Dave Dobson, Regional Sales Manager of Proxim Wireless. “Pittsboro’s challenges are experienced by many different municipalities across the country and as such, we are working with the AllthingsIT and their Safe Small Towns initiative which is focused on helping small towns address their Civic Surveillance requirements cost-effectively and efficiently.”
