BSIA is reinforcing the Government’s warning in dealing with terrorism.
James Kelly, Chief Executive of the BSIA

The British Security Industry Association (BSIA) is urging British organisations to step up security in the wake of Osama Bin Laden's death.

"While the official terror alert for the UK remains at severe, the BSIA is reinforcing the Government's message of increased vigilance against potential reactionary terrorist attacks." said James Kelly, Chief Executive of the BSIA.

Foreign Secretary, William Hague, has warned of the risk of retaliatory attacks against the UK, with embassies and government buildings already on high alert.

The BSIA is adding to this warning by reinforcing the important role that effective security can play in dealing with terrorism. James Kelly continues, "As we have already seen from the 7/7 bombings and Glasgow airport attack, the private security industry plays an essential part in detecting and solving terror crimes. However, it is also important to recognise the importance of a strong security presence in deterring further crimes. CCTV systems, physical security, access control and the presence of uniformed security personnel can all work effectively to provide a holistic approach to ensure maximum security, protecting businesses against all manner of crimes."

"In the wake of the death of Osama Bin Laden, areas at particular risk of falling victim to retaliatory attack in the UK might include public sector and government buildings, the transport network and crowded city centres. As such, the BSIA recommends for organisations of all kinds to consider what additional security measures may be of particular value."

Enlisting the help of a security consultant is a perfect place to start for those businesses without specific security expertise.
