TotalBank has also integrated their CCTV cameras with the Keyscan system to easily access video information from their DVR
Keyscan offers the capability to centrally manage the entire access control infrastructure at TotalBank

The very nature of banking is based on trust. Trust that the banking institution will protect its customers’ money and their confidential data. For that precise reason bank security is and always has been a top priority for both the banks and their customers. In 2008 TotalBank decided to enhance their physical security controls, and began looking to bolster its physical security and access control capabilities.

TotalBank, based in Miami Florida, has been providing financial services in the area for over 30 years. With 14 branches and over $2 billion in assets, TotalBank required an access control system that was flexible enough to support the multiple- branch environment as well as their corporate and administrative offices. For Mr. Ivan Montesinos, Senior Vice President Corporate Information and Security Officer of TotalBank, the choice to go with Keyscan seemed like a natural fit for the bank. "We needed additional layers of security to ensure the integrity of the bank. We have a lot of extremely confidential information and it is absolutely crucial for us to control who can gain access to it.”

Mr. Montesinos needed an access control system he could depend on, a system that he could specify without reservation. Based on prior exposure to Keyscan, Mr. Montesinos knew that Keyscan was his logical choice. In a multi-branch environment Keyscan offers the capability to centrally manage the entire access control infrastructure. Mr. Montesinos and his security staff can instantly review alarm conditions, modify access privileges or lock down a facility when necessary. This ability to centrally manage the system was critical to the high security envelope that Total Bank envisioned for their access control system. For example, from his own desk Mr. Montesinos can lock and unlock doors, add and delete cards, and fully manage the day to day use of the system for each branch. “We had keys before” says Mr. Montesinos, “and there was always some form of access control, but the Keyscan system has brought us to a whole new level of security.”

The Keyscan access control system gives Mr. Montesinos the power of information at his fingertips. The ability to generate a report on virtually any site activity holds the TotalBank employees to a greater level of accountability. If an incident should occur, or there is a breach of security, Mr. Montesinos has the ability to create a full audit trail in seconds to assist in investigations, which is an invaluable resource. “Keyscan’s reporting function is very well designed,” says Mr. Montesinos. “I can run any report very easily, which is important.”

TotalBank has also integrated their CCTV cameras with the Keyscan system to easily access video information from their DVR. With the Keyscan K-TV module, TotalBank is able to view multiple cameras, view alarms and historical alarm video at a moment’s notice.

The K-CM, with active mapping capability was also an exciting feature for Mr. Montesinos. Total- Bank has created floor plans for each branch including their corporate offices. Door icons indicate doors secured by access control and provide real-time door status including door control straight from the map. “I can do everything from the map. Being able to lock and unlock doors, and pull up camera images on a split-second’s notice is extremely important, especially in our branch locations. The active mapping allows us to react even more quickly in the event of an alarm.”

“As a financial institution, TotalBank needed a high level of security. With Keyscan you get a system that is so reliable it just becomes part of their everyday routine"

The bank has secured all of the most sensitive areas of each branch with Keyscan card readers. This includes IT rooms, all doors leading to the teller line, and the doors leading to the vault and ATMs. For Mr. Rey Vega, President/COO of Hamilton Safe and Security in Fort Lauderdale, FL, the installing dealer on the project, the choice to go with Keyscan was never in doubt. “As a financial institution, TotalBank needed a high level of security. With Keyscan you get a system that is so reliable it just becomes part of their everyday routine. Once the system is set up you can really just forget about it and let it do its job.”

This high level of reliability led Mr. Vega to install Keyscan’s KPROX2 readers throughout all critical areas of TotalBank. “Other readers just go dead sometimes. We don’t sell anything but the KPROX2 anymore as a result. They are incredibly easy to install and they look a lot better than other readers. I have confidence in a product that Keyscan will put their name on.”

Mr. Vega and Hamilton Safe and Security have been installing Keyscan systems for over 14 years and continue to be enthusiastic about its performance. “The whole Keyscan package is foolproof,” comments Mr. Vega, “From a feature standpoint it has everything you need, but with support that is unparalleled. The system is extremely easy to install, but even for the smallest question, the Keyscan technical support team does a fantastic job.”

Based on a successful pilot installation and outstanding performance of the Keyscan access control system, TotalBank and Mr. Montesinos are extremely excited to have all 14 of their branches secured with Keyscan. “Keyscan is well designed, and comes with so many features without sacrificing ease of use, I look forward to having all of the branches secured with Keyscan,” says Mr. Montesinos.
