Arts and Exhibitions International (AEI) is the organisation behind the award-winning travelling exhibit “Tutankhamun: The Golden King and The Great Pharaohs," which examines the life and era of the ancient Egyptian pharaoh King Tutankhamun. Along with National Geographic, AEG Exhibitions and the cooperation of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, AEI premiered the exhibit in the U.S. November 2008 at the Atlanta Civic Center in Georgia and subsequently moved the exhibit for its June 2009 showing at the Children's Museum of Indianapolis.
Business objective:
Arts and Exhibitions International (AEI) needed a sophisticated surveillance system that would be easy to deploy and manage. AEI also required the video solution to integrate with other systems that protect the more than 100 Egyptian national treasures from the tombs of King Tut and other famous pharaohs. Displayed objects include solid gold artefacts that had never been seen before in the United States prior to the exhibit's opening in Atlanta.
Solution:
Selected, in part, for its high quality, AEI chose a Bosch IP surveillance system that would travel with the exhibition during its tour throughout the U.S. and Canada. Now, nearly 40 Bosch FlexiDome IP cameras installed high above the gallery walls watch over the exhibit’s priceless artefacts. The cameras stream live video from the galleries to two DiBos digital video recorders that record to a 16 TB RAID 5 disk array. If a display case is disturbed, the DiBos DVRs automatically call up the associated camera on the operator’s workstation – helping security staff quickly respond to incidents in the galleries. Two Bosch Megapixel cameras mounted at the entrance and exit of the exhibition capture fine details, such as facial features, of visitors.

For an additional safeguard against theft or accidental damage, Intelligent Video Analysis (IVA) embedded in Bosch FlexiDome IP cameras watch over some of the largest artifacts in the exhibit.
IVA helps security personnel keep a closer eye on a 3,500-yearold statue of an Egyptian pharaoh buried in one of the great pyramids at Giza and an effigy of a 12th Dynasty Queen.
The use of analytics provides an added layer of protection for these sensitive artefacts, which are not easily enclosed in glass. With IVA, a violation can be detected well before the artefact's sensor could be activated.
Result:
“AEI asked for a powerful surveillance system that could be set up and dismantled quickly,” said Jim Coleman, president of Operational Security Systems. “The Bosch camera and recording solution was simple to deploy – allowing us to complete the project in just two weeks.”
Technicians were able to set up cameras and program the system prior to the installation – reducing onsite time to a minimum. “The Bosch IP-based system allowed us to greatly minimise our installation time and costs,” said Jeffrey Wyatt, vice president, Project Management for Arts and Exhibitions International.
