The latest EnviroDome cameras from Bosch Security Systems have been specified by Unique Integrated Systems (UIS) in an important new installation at the historic Albert Dock, Liverpool - described as the most visited multi-user attraction outside of London, attracting more than four million people each year. Security at the UNESCO World Heritage site is a high priority.
Skelmersdale-based UIS in partnership with CB Richard Ellis, managing agents for The Albert Dock, have continually reviewed and enhanced the CCTV technology and has been commended by Merseyside Police as the best installation in the city.
UIS recommended Bosch and the result is a new 14-camera installation and 32-way matrix system, as Operations Director Mark Ashall explains: "The existing cameras were Bosch and the client Gower Street Estates is pleased with their performance," said Mark. "It made sense, therefore, to explore what else Bosch had to offer, and for this new project the EnviroDome seemed to be the ideal choice.
"We had to bear in mind that this is a World Heritage Site and the buildings are Grade I listed, so we had to take into account the management's concerns about aesthetics. Of equal importance was the issue of reliability. We want cameras that need only the minimum of maintenance, and know that they won't fail when they are needed most."
EnviroDomes are an integral part of Bosch's AutoDome range, featuring its innovative motion tracking capability AutoTrack. Rugged in design and ideally suited for perimeter surveillance, car parks and other similar outdoor applications, EnviroDomes feature Day/night cameras that automatically switch from colour to monochrome when light levels decrease to give extra sensitivity, whilst high-resolution cameras with optical zoom of up to 25x capture the finest detail.
"The client has been very pleased with the new technology," Mark adds. "It has taken their security to a new level, whilst not interfering with the intrinsic quality of such an historic site." Completed in 1846, the docks were designed to accommodate 1,000 tonne sailing ships carrying valuable cargoes of rum, tobacco and cotton. It now houses a mixture of award-winning attractions, from Tate Liverpool and The Beatles Story to a variety of different restaurants and bars.
