FLIR Systems VSR-6Never has thermal imaging for security and surveillance applications been more affordable than today.  Thanks to increasing demand, resulting in high volume production, FLIR Systems is able to bring the price of its thermal imaging cameras down.  As a result its latest addition, the VSR-6 is introduced at €2,895, and will be exhibited at IFSEC 2008.

The VSR-6 features the same thermal imaging technology found in many of FLIR Systems' most sophisticated security and surveillance systems, but is packaged for users who have short-range security and surveillance as their primary application.  It includes FLIR Systems' advanced image processing techniques, which deliver excellent contrast regardless of scene dynamics.

The VSR-6 is a thermal imager that offers exceptional awareness in both day and night applications, both indoor and outdoor, irrespective of the prevailing light level and weather conditions.  It sees events that are missed by the naked eye and conventional CCTV cameras, especially in total darkness, fog, and in smoke.  Objects and people can no longer remain concealed in the shadows, forests and bushes.  Security staff can see them, monitor them and track them.

The camera provides reliable round-the-clock awareness without the need for supplementary equipment.  It represents exceptional value for money, as simple plug and play allows quick and easy installation and set-up.  The 160x120 pixels longwave detector delivers crisp thermal images that can be displayed on virtually any existing display that accepts composite video.

Unlike other night vision systems that require low amounts of light to generate an image, the VSR-6 needs no light at all.  This is an important benefit as supplementary lighting is often expensive to install, power and maintain and in some sensitive locations is also considered too intrusive.  Furthermore, lighting essentially lays out a route of attack for intruders, creating shadows in which to gain access undetected.Breaking and Entering

The VSR-6 creates a virtual security fence and if integrated into an existing CCTV infrastructure provides early detection and visibility 24/7 all year round.  It is equipped with a 6 mm lens offering an extremely wide 52° field of view for excellent situational awareness.

Thanks to volume production FLIR Systems has been able to commercialise thermal imaging technology effectively making it affordable to a much greater range of potential users.  The VSR-6 is a good example of this trend, offering significant operational benefits at an attractive price.
