Suprema's RealScan-D live scan system
Suprema's RealScan-D system selected for the coastal ID project of India under the Ministry of Home Affairs
Suprema Inc., a leading provider of biometric technology, announced recently that the company's RealScan-D live scan system has been selected for the coastal ID project of India under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

RealScan-D is claimed to be the world's fastest live scanner which performs scan rate of 20 fps (frames-per-second) or above. The scanner is equipped with powerful DSP and loaded with fast image-processing software by Suprema's advanced live-scan technology. The device is also a portable, USB-powered device hence is suitable for bundling with mobile jump-kit when used at the registration offices and sites. With its proven reliability of FBI certification (IQS appendix F) and high-speed image capturing, the device has been selected under severe competition with other vendors' products.

The project is steered by the Registrar General of India under the ministry of home affairs. The 26/11 terror attacks on Mumbai have expedited the Union government's move to create a National Population Register (NPR) for residents in the coastal areas. As part of this coastal ID project, citizens demographics, photographs and all 10 fingerprints are being taken to prepare the bio-metric smart cards that can be useful in identifying illegal immigrants and terrorists using the sea route. The initial project will cover 12 million citizens living in coastal villages of 13 States/Union Territories and will be expanded to national level subsequently. The project is being carried out by the Consortium of Public Sectors including Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL), Electronic Corporation of India Ltd (ECIL) and ITI Limited.

The original contract was awarded to 4G Identity Solutions Private Limited through a global tendering process. 4G Identity Solutions, a partner of Suprema in India will be responsible for installation, system integration, ongoing technical support and maintenance.

Suprema's RealScan-D live scanner recently won another government project in Brazil for nationwide voters' registration project.
