Biometric time and attendance system from Suprema helps Telco giant streamline work
Benchachinda registered its employees with fingerprints first and later issued RFID cards

Customer background

Benchachinda Holding Company Ltd. is one of the leading Telco giant in Thailand. With over 50 years in the business, the company today provides vast areas of ICT services including broadband Internet, mobile communication, retail, e-learning and system integration.

The company has several brands throughout the industry and over 1,400 direct employees and nationwide branches, service stations and retail outlets.

Facing fast-growing demand from Thailand's booming economy, the company was experiencing an increasing need to enhance its access control security system to reduce costs incurred from inefficiencies of card-based legacy system.

At planning stage, a biometric security system was not on top of the list but the company was looking for a security solution that provides new levels of control with ease of adoption, ongoing maintenance and use.

The challenges

Over the years, Benchachinda group had been using magnetic card system for its access control and time attendance needs. The company had acquired variety of different systems to keep up with its geographical expansion and to replace old systems. However, this resulted in increasing maintenance cost and system integration problem between different systems.

Adoption of IP biometric security solution gave Benchachinda more flexibility and control

The Company also had been facing other shortfalls of card-based system. Due to high traffic in major offices, magnetic strips on the cards often went unreadable and card readers also did not last long enough. For such reasons, Benchachinda decided to upgrade its access control system to RFID solution at the beginning. Since some of the existing systems were extremely unstable at the time of planning, fast implementation was another major concern for Benchachinda.

Suprema solution

Adoption of IP biometric security solution gave Benchachinda more flexibility and control for both its access control & time attendance systems. Registering a user at one location can be applied to nationwide remote locations with IP connectivity and this offers improved control for such an organisation with operations over scattered locations.

To speed up the implementation process, Benchachinda decided to register its employees with fingerprints first and later issue RFID cards. This saved substantial time of implementation because the RFID card issuing involves series of time consuming processes from design, ordering, manufacturing, printing to delivering & registration.

Taking considerations on such advantages of biometric security system, Benchachinda management later decided to use fingerprint only for its system for their HQ building having more than 1,000 employees.

Suprema solution also offers server-matching feature when privacy is an issue. With its TCP-IP interface, the fingerprints are no longer needed to be stored on devices or on scattered storages. The fingerprint input can be transferred to server and is matched to fingerprint DB storage at server level.

All fingerprint data in the system is encrypted to allow for higher security and Suprema supports scalable fingerprint template helping much faster matching speed among the vast fingerprint data stored in the server.

"The Suprema biometric solution provides a unique set of benefits that were not possible with Benchachinda's existing system including ease of use & maintenance, real-time monitoring, physical durability, and integrated access control & time attendance software," said Benchachinda personnel.
