When Dyno-Secure's Manchester based alarm franchisee decided to install one of the company's alarms at its own premises, the partners regarded it as a sensible precaution as part of the overall security for the building.  They certainly did not expect it to be an ‘overnight success'.

Peter Hamby and Glen Walsh set up Dyno-Secure franchise Dysec Limited last year, basing the business on the Mount Heath Business Park in Greater Manchester.  While the unit is surrounded by a 10-foot high fence, they took the decision at the end of July to fit one of the Gardtec/Dyno alarms that the business is regularly supplying for customers.

The installation was completed on a Friday afternoon and the alarm set before everyone left for the weekend.  When on the Monday morning staff arrived to find the light flashing and the internal sounder blaring away, the first reaction was to assume there was some glitch in the system to be ironed out, and the engineer who carried out the work came in for some light-hearted ribbing.

But when ten minutes after one of the deluges for which Manchester is renowned had begun, a section of the suspended ceiling collapsed under the weight of water, revealing a smashed skylight.  Further investigation on the roof led to the discovery of heavy implements the criminal had employed in his attempt to break in.

Peter Hamby takes up the account:  "After discovering the damage we checked the alarm to see what time it had been triggered and saw it had been activated at 4-15 am.  Then when we looked at the CCTV footage we could see that the criminal had scurried away the moment the alarm sounded, leaving the tools of his trade behind.  The Police attended and have taken away the evidence for fingerprint analysis.  Obviously our alarm systems are so good the burglars want them to protect their own homes!"

His business partner, Glen Walsh, adds: "Peter and I actually began work with our own franchises on the same day some 10 years ago, but we set up Dysec in 2005 to develop the alarm work and we have taken on all the maintenance and new installations for British Gas Home Security.  The business has grown steadily based on the level of service we offer clients, and the profile Dyno-Secure gives us."

The Dysec territory covers a large part of the northwest from Oldham in the east over to Wigan in the west and then right down to Knutsford in the south.  The firm installs all types of alarms from small domestic units up to police monitored systems.
