Barcode and credential reading capabilities of multispectral imaging is unique to Lumidigm’s technology works
Lumidigm's fingerprint technology has been extended to read barcodes and authenticate credentials

Lumidigm recently announced that attendees at the 2012 Biometric Consortium Conference (BCC) and Technology Exposition, September 18-20 at the Tampa (Fla.) Convention Center will be able to see how the company’s fingerprint technology can be extended to read barcodes and authenticate credentials.  Lumidigm will offer demonstrations of these capabilities at booth 214.

“We are excited to demonstrate our barcode reading and credential authentication capabilities because they tie in nicely with solutions we are already offering with our biometric fingerprint sensors,” explains Phil Scarfo, Lumidigm Vice President of Sales and Marketing.  “Many customers require multi-factor authentication solutions and adding barcode-reading capability to a fingerprint reader is one way we will be able to meet that demand — in a single device!”

The barcode- and credential-reading capabilities of multispectral imaging, unique among biometric technologies, are inherent to the way Lumidigm technology works. As a direct imaging process, multispectral imaging employs multiple spectrums of light and advanced polarisation techniques to extract unique fingerprint characteristics from both the surface and subsurface of the skin. This Lumidigm technology is not restricted to perfect contact with the sensor nor is it limited to reading fingers.

“Only Lumidigm’s biometric technology can see the difference between a twenty-dollar bill and a photocopy of a twenty-dollar bill,” says Scarfo. “That’s authentication in a nutshell!”

A video demonstrating how a barcode on a smartphone can control a specially-configured Lumidigm sensor can be viewed on Lumidigm’s website here: www.lumidigm.com/barcode/.
