Moscow Underground receive security upgrade from Axis network video products
Axis Communications recently announced that Moscow Underground has installed Axis network video products as part of an integrated security system aimed at improving safety and security for passengers and staff on its subway trains.  The initial installation consists of around 1 000 network video products, with the potential for additional installations.

The installation on the main subway line Moscow Underground includes Axis network cameras, Axis video servers and Axis network video recorders.  The cameras and video servers, together with Axis network video recorders, provide 24-hour recordings of high quality, digital video.  The products allow remote access to video on the moving trains for visual verification of alarms and to enable security personnel to respond quickly to an event.

"The completion of the installation on the main subway line illustrates the successful implementation of network video solutions in demanding transportation environments," said Ray Mauritsson, President of Axis Communications.  "We are proud to deliver our solution to the Moscow underground and hope to be selected for future expansions."

Moscow Underground's video surveillance installation has been conducted by Axis' partner and systems integrator, Metrokom.  "Axis' network video products offer exceptional technical features and possess excellent operating qualities that have proved themselves in the demanding environment of subway trains," says a representative from Metrokom.  "We have gained a reliable and considerate partner in choosing Axis, and we plan to take advantage of Axis' products in future projects."

The rise in network video installations in the transportation sector is driven by the fact that network video provides greater flexibility and performance benefits than an analogue video system and can easily integrate with existing Ethernet-based information systems onboard trains and buses.  Network video products offer a number of key advantages including high image quality, cost effective installations, remote and wireless access to live and recorded video in moving vehicles, and built-in intelligence or analytics such as tampering detection and people counting.
