Axis Communications, the global leader in network video surveillance, recently launches a powerful yet easy-to-use release of its video management software with AXIS Camera Station 4.0.

AXIS Camera Station 4.0 is a complete video monitoring and recording solution designed to seamlessly match Axis’ extensive range of network cameras and video encoders. The new release, which refines the software in its tenth year and after 50,000 worldwide installations, includes a re-designed interface, intuitive setup wizard with automatic camera discovery and improved features for alarm management and investigation – including the ability to investigate hours of HDTV-quality recordings within seconds with Extended Smart Search.

Additionally, AXIS Camera Station 4.0 features basic integration support for AXIS A1001 Network Door Controller, available in the U.S. and Canada.

Easy to install, use and manage

With the introduction of AXIS Camera Station 4.0, Axis provides user-friendly and efficient video surveillance for small and mid-sized installations with a complete video monitoring and recording solution. The new setup wizard, which features automatic camera discovery, guides the user through every step of the configuration process, allowing the system to be up and running within minutes.

The new user interface of AXIS Camera Station has been re-designed with a focus on ease-of-use and intuitive operation of key features, including live view navigation, event configuration and video investigation. The GUI (graphical user interface) allows for quick access to Axis network camera or video encoder views, split-views and simple navigation with the ability to drag-and-drop between multiple screens.

Extended Smart Search and superb image usability deliver powerful video evidence

With AXIS Camera Station 4.0, Axis introduces Extended Smart Search. By simply defining an area of interest in the video scene, the user can search through vast amounts of high-definition video in seconds for quick investigation and evidence retrieval. Extended Smart Search is based on AXIS Video Content Stream technology, which enables an Axis camera to capture certain information from the images and send a separate stream together with the video and audio files.

AXIS Camera Station also allows the user to take full advantage of Axis’ market-leading network cameras and their capabilities, such as 360º overview recording with client-side de-warping from AXIS M3007-P and AXIS M3007-PV cameras, multi-view streaming, Axis Corridor Format H.264 compression and advanced camera-based video motion detection providing high-definition video for identification even if bandwidth and storage are limited.

Additional features of AXIS Camera Station 4.0 include:

  • Drag-and-drop for quick navigation to cameras to show video on selected screens;
  • Instant replay that allows the operator to navigate from live video to replaying the same incident over and over again;
  • Manually triggered event capability from live view with on-screen action buttons that can be used to open/close doors and switch on/off lights (for example);
  • Automatic installation and configuration of advanced video motion detection, VMD 2.1, into connected Axis cameras as part of the setup;
  • 64-bit server and client architecture to increase performance and robustness.

“The AXIS Camera Station 4.0 release combines simple installation and a new intuitive user interface with powerful features for forensic investigation and positive identification – all wrapped up in an easy-to-use package,” said Ryan Gregory, manager, Systems and Solutions, Axis Communications, Inc. “Extended Smart Search and auto-configuration turn minutes into seconds, the drag-and-drop features and action buttons provide the operator with more control, and integration with the full line of Axis products, including access control, makes AXIS Camera Station extremely attractive for small and mid-sized system owners.”
