Basler’s ONVIF membership will help it harness the full potential of network video technology
ONVIF's aim is to create a standard for IP communication within video surveillance and other physical security areas

ONVIF, a global and open industry forum for the standardisation of IP product communication, has welcomed Basler as a user member.

ONVIF (Open Network Video Interface Forum) is an organisation founded in 2008 by Axis Communications, Bosch Security Systems, and Sony. Its aim is to create a standard for IP communication within video surveillance and other physical security areas.

ONVIF membership is open to manufacturers, software developers, consultants, system integrators, end-users, and other interest groups that wish to participate in the activities of this forum. The ONVIF standard strives for interoperability between network video products regardless of manufacturer.

Under this global interface standard, Basler's partners, distributors, and end users can harness the full potential of network video technology, and benefit from easy integration and reduced total cost. In addition, Basler aims to facilitate the changeover from analog to digital camera technology.

Basler has already begun developing ONVIF-compatible products. "We have always supported open standards to provide our customers with highly flexible platforms and applications," explains Gerrit Schreiber, Product Manager IP Components at Basler. "As a camera supplier, we place great emphasis on compatibility of our products with our technology partners' products - and we regard ONVIF as the right basis for this."
