The ceremony was held at the London Hilton on Park Lane
The training provides government staffs with essential skills to promote safety awareness in fragile movements

International security and protection specialist Pilgrims Group has been awarded the prestigious Security Excellence Award (SEA) for its industry leading training for UK government employees due to be posted overseas, sometimes to politically unstable countries.

In a ceremony held at the London Hilton on Park Lane, Pilgrims’ COO David Freear and Training Manager Sam Mostyn accepted the SEA’s ‘Security Training Initiative of the Year’ for its SAFE and SAFE Plus schemes, a Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) led, cross government training programme.

The training, designed to help save the lives of government staff and their families as they serve the UK overseas, provides them with essential skills to promote safety awareness in fragile environments (SAFE).

“Pilgrims’ SAFE course delivers life skills that can be used in any situation, not just fragile or hostile arenas,” says Gill Allen, Security Trainer and Head of Section (Security Awareness and Training Team) at the FCO. “The level of engagement in practical scenarios means that staff have to think on their feet and react to unexpected situations. Training examples are based on real life events and the practical scenarios regularly get good feedback from course delegates. This award is well deserved.”

A panel of judges, including representatives from the SIA, ASIS, Sainsbury’s, NSI, BSIA, AMEC, KPMG, Aon, and Bank of England, selected the company whose training programme actively promotes ‘Best Practice’ within the security sector and shows clear results of having done so. They looked at various aspects with a key part looking for the star quality that makes it different from other programmes.

The Security Excellence Awards is arguably the most robustly judged programme for security excellence in the UK, making it the Oscars of the security business sector. “To win is a fantastic achievement, with each organisation celebrated as a champion in their sector and an example to our industry,” states an organiser representative.

The judges further commented on Pilgrims’ training: “This highly successful, diverse and far-reaching safety programme provides essential preparation for individuals required to work or travel in fragile environments. These courses are vital as they enable Her Majesty’s Government personnel to access essential pre-deployment safety training and Best Practice advice. To date, a 99% pass rate has been achieved for delegates attending the SAFE and SAFE Plus courses run by Pilgrims Group. That statistic is exceptional and speaks for itself.”

Pilgrims’ David Freear continues; “This award gives Pilgrims independent recognition for all the hard work we have put into developing our innovative training approach over the last two years. We receive excellent feedback from clients, who feel our schemes are unique and of an exceptionally high standard. Ever more clients are signing up to the training we offer. The award is a fantastic result for Pilgrims Group as a whole and our training team in particular.”
