Internationally recognised Prof. Gerard Medioni, Ph.D., brings video processing and computer vision expertise to the exploding enterprise-grade video analytics market

Agent Video Intelligence Inc. (Agent Vi), the global leader in enterprise-grade video analytics, today announced that it has appointed Dr Gérard Medioni, Ph.D., Professor and Chairman at the Department of Computer Science, University of Southern California (USC), to the company's Board of Advisors.

"Given the convergence of the IT and traditional physical security and video surveillance industry, Dr Medioni brings a wealth of knowledge and technical expertise from the computer vision world to our next generation of video analytics and surveillance technology," stated David Anthony, Chairman of Agent Vi's Board of Directors and Managing Partner of 21Ventures, the company's lead investor.  "As the newest member of our Board of Advisors, Gérard will be invaluable in helping shape the future direction and growth of Agent Vi as we continue to grow and expand in the enterprise market and explore new, yet untapped applications for video analysis technology."

Gérard Medioni has been a faculty member at USC since 1983, where he is currently a professor of computer science and electrical engineering, co-director of the Computer Vision Laboratory, and chairman of the Computer Science Department.  Medioni was a visiting scientist at INRIA Sophia Antipolis in 1993 and Chief Technical Officer of Geometrix, Inc. during his sabbatical in 2000.

An acknowledged expert in the computer vision world, Medioni holds six patents in the areas of video processing and computer vision, with an additional six pending.  In addition to authoring "Tensor Voting: A Perceptual Organisation Approach to Computer Vision and Machine Learning" (Morgan & Claypool, 2006), "Emerging Topics in Computer Vision" (Prentice Hall, 2004) and "A Computational Framework for Segmentation and Grouping" (Elsevier Publisher, 2000), he has written and published over 100 research works in the areas of computer vision, video analytics, object tracking and related topics. 

Medioni received the Diplome d'Ingénieur Civil from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications, Paris, and both a M.S. and Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles.   Medioni is a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineer (IEEE), a fellow of the American Association for Artificial Intelligence (IAPR) and a fellow of the International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR).  He is a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Computer Vision, and serves as a scientific advisor to DXO Labs, Rcadia and Perceptronics Solutions in addition to Agent Vi.

Dr. Medioni joins a distinguished group of advisors at Agent Vi that includes Peter Gyenes and Russell R. MacDonnell.  Gynes has four decades of experience in technical, sales, marketing and general management positions within the software and computer systems industry and most recently served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Ascential, which was acquired by IBM in 2005.  MacDonnell is co-founder, Chairman and CEO of Rapid Response Monitoring, the technological leader in command and control monitoring systems and also Intelli-Tec Security Services, LLC, in Westbury, New York.  Intelli-Tec designs and installs custom electronic and video security systems for residential and corporate customers.
