Octavian Security has appointed Barbara Chawner as the new head of the HR department at headquarters

Leading security provider Octavian Security has announced the appointment of a new head of human resources.

Barbara Chawner will manage the HR department at Octavian's Head Office, bringing with her a strong portfolio of HR experience in the security/facilities management sector, with stints at both Securicor and Serco.

One of Barbara's key roles will be to oversee Octavian's recruitment process, taking control of the vetting and screening of all potential candidates to ensure that they meet the criteria of BS 7858, the British Standard for individuals employed in the security industry.

As well as her previous facilities management experience, Barbara has used her standing as an MCIPD in HR to work as a self-employed consultant. During this time, she delivered HR and management skills training courses to several high profile clients, including the Bank of England and the UK's biggest selling book publisher, Random House Publishing.

Commenting on the new appointment, Octavian's operations director Sam Singh said:

"Barbara's qualifications and experience will serve to strengthen our HR division even further. She has an impressive track record for proactive delivery of commercially focussed and pragmatic HR solutions in both private and voluntary sectors, as well as an outstanding reputation for establishing HR best practice."

"By overseeing the recruitment process, Barbara will also ensure that the Octavian team continues to be made up of the country's most reliable and experienced security professionals."
