Honeywell’s BMS integrated security system installed at the West Cheshire College campuses
The Honeywell BMS includes access control and RFID tagging to monitor productivity and movements
Honeywell announced that it has been selected to install an integrated building management (BMS) solution at West Cheshire College's new Chester and Ellesmere Port campuses to manage the operations, provide an improved experience for learners and teachers via innovative learning and assessment techniques, and improve the college's capacity to manage its resources effectively.

Designed to support West Cheshire College's vision of ‘Building a difference, not just a different building', the Honeywell BMS includes access control and RFID tagging to monitor productivity and movements of both students and lecturers. Wireless tracking of students enables automatic registration, providing accurate data, such as attendance figures, to help manage the business effectively. Data analysis also enables staff to be appropriately assigned to classes and identifies low attendance, allowing the college to consider and implement appropriate solutions. Conditions within the college, such as heating and ventilation, can also be controlled based on where people are located.

CCTV cameras will be used to secure the campuses both inside and out, and will also be used to record sessions and assessment, allowing students to revisit or review their work. Alongside a third-party telephony system, the CCTV cameras will also be used to provide real-time coaching and feedback to lecturers.

"As a specialist vocational college, we have long encouraged learning in an innovative way and by embracing technology," said Penny Horsefield, Deputy Principal, West Cheshire College. "Thanks to Honeywell we will now boast a truly ‘intelligent' college that provides modern teaching, learning and assessment in a safe and comfortable environment and the ability to effectively manage all our resources."

Horsefield continued: "Honeywell were selected because of the breadth and integration of its solution, flexibility and successful track record in converged projects."

"The rise of digital communications is prompting dramatic changes in the way students are taught and requires new thought into how educational premises are designed," said Tom Bain, District General Manager, Honeywell Building Solutions. "West Cheshire College is demonstrating best practice in modern learning and we're proud that our technology is helping enable this project."
