| Ingersoll Rand's PegaSys is a cost-effective way to upgrade a mechanical access control solution to an electronic one |
As technology develops, so do advances in building access and security. To satisfy the ever changing demands of clients, as well as compliance to changing rules and regulations, manufacturers are developing new and inventive solutions. However, regardless of the reasons for upgrading, there is usually one overriding concern - the need to be as cost-effective as possible.
Innovative manufacturers, such as Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies, are continually developing and evolving products. PegaSys Lite, for example, is a simple and cost-effective way to upgrade mechanical locks to electronically-controlled access solutions.
Designed for smaller premises and for a limited number of users, PegaSys Lite is available in two versions: ‘PIN' which allows access via a keypad and ‘Prox' for access via a key fob. Both systems, designed for ease of installation, are supplied complete with everything needed to retrofit onto an existing standard European lockcase. The PIN version assigns unique user codes of three to eight digits which can be quickly added or removed at the door. The Prox version is available as a starter kit consisting of one lock, 10 access fobs and a programming card for one door. Additional locks and key fobs can then be purchased to add extra doors or users, as required.
Both options are quick and easy to install without any technical knowledge and can be up and working in less than four minutes. Because the locks are programmed individually at each door, there is no need for a computerised system or any wiring. Both versions are fully reversible, feature a ‘quick change' battery unit which enables batteries to be replaced in seconds and can be set to ‘free passage' mode when the door needs to be left unlocked.
This system is perfect for small premises and workplaces which require more control over their security without the expense of a fully-networked wired system. It is ideal for places such as GP surgeries, commercial properties, offices and smaller retail environments where there is no centralised facilities department and where responsibility falls on a staff member.
The Briton CO-100 provides another opportunity to replace or enhance traditional mechanical key systems. The battery-operated lock can be manually programmed assigning unique PIN codes to users which can be easily added or deleted at any time, offering a flexible but secure solution. The lock requires minimal maintenance as security codes can be programmed at the door and four AA batteries will provide power for about two years. The CO-100 has passed rigorous ANSI/BHMA 156.25 grade 1 certification and is UL294 listed.
Importantly, both these locks can be used in conjunction with other products from Ingersoll Rand to provide a one-stop security solution for all doors, including door furniture, closers, lockcases and panic and exit hardware.
