RayTec is ‘breath of fresh air’ for Vizsec

CCTV coverage is being improved at a number of parks, cemetries and play areas in Stockton-on-Tees and Middlesborough thanks to the installation of Raymax IR illuminators from Raytec.

Vizsec Security, which has been asked to improve night time image quality at various locations around Stockton, says the Raymax range is "a breath of fresh air" compared with alternative lighting options.

"Having worked for many years in the industry and used Infra Red lamps of all description and sizes, we have continually experienced problems with ongoing costs related to bulb replacement," says Vizsec MD Ashwin Lal.

"Suppliers are often too keen to offer bulb-type lamps, and fail to point out the ongoing costs of both purchasing replacement bulbs as well as the cost of fitting them."

He says that for various customers costs had escalated to the point where the feasibility of installing IR Lamps had been questioned, with the potential risk of reducing CCTV quality at night.

In one of the latest installations that Vizsec has handled the local authority wanted to ensure the safety of children and prevent potential vandalism at a play area, particularly in the dark winter evenings, and needed clear, reliable images from its cameras.

"Fortunately we have now have the luxury of utilising the Raymax LED range of lighting.  These units are reliable, easy to install and align, and don't cause over-exposed areas at the centre of the image which was a typical problem with the older bulb type units."

Mr Lal says the selection process is simpler with Raytec too, with a full range of options available in the catalogue to suit different projects.  "Mounting the units is relatively simple and we no longer have to use cumbersome, expensive and ugly bracketry."  For example, he explains, using two sets of Raymax lamps suitably located on a pole provides a 360 degree

array of illumination which is ideal for speed dome applications.

"I've found Raytec keen to communicate and liaise with our engineers for feedback - with our latest projects working with them has been a real breath of fresh air for us."
