Chris Stott, MD of Wessex Fire & Security spoke about fire and security relating to farms and rural locations

Members of Gillingham and Shaftesbury Young Farmers Club are looking the part in new rugby shirts - thanks to sponsorship from Wessex Fire & Security.

The club is over 30 strong and now they are colour co-ordinated and wearing personalised tops, emblazoned with the new sponsor’s logo.

Chris Stott, MD of Dorset-based Wessex Fire & Security, met the members at one of their regular meetings at the Coppleridge pub in Motcombe and gave a presentation.

He spoke about fire and security relating to farms and rural locations, an area in which the firm has huge experience and expertise.

A lively question and answer session was also involved as the young farmers quizzed Chris about aspects of the business and asked for tips on fire prevention and security measures.

Club chairman Dan Miller said: “We are very grateful to Wessex Fire & Security for the shirts.

“When we attend events and shows it really does make a difference if everyone is wearing the same thing, and of course there is some competition between young farmers clubs in the area.

“Chris also gave a really interesting talk which is so relevant to us because rural crime is a really big issue.

“Everyone in the club has experienced rural crime in some form or another so to get a few tips about how to prevent it was very useful.

“We also learned a lot about fire prevention and I know some of us were surprised when we heard what ordinary devices can cause fires.”

Chris said: “We were very pleased to supply the club with new rugby shirts, which look great.

“Being Shaftesbury based we want to support local groups in the area and this was a perfect opportunity.

“The club also asked me to give a talk about fire and security on farms and hopefully I was able to raise some awareness.”
