 ASIS Europe 2011 will cover the entire spectrum of topics in security management

The 10th ASIS International European Security Conference & Exhibition to take place at Vienna

Vienna is getting ready to welcome the 10th ASIS International European Security Conference & Exhibition that will take place on 3-6 April 2011 at the Messe Wien.

Around 400 senior security professionals are expected to attend more than 36 high-level educational sessions that will cover the entire spectrum of topics in security management such as: supply chain security, industrial espionage, terrorism, information security, anti-counterfeiting, organised crime, fraud, crisis management, critical infrastructure protection, and more.

On Monday 4 April, Michal Moroz, Deputy Minister of the Interior of the Czech Republic, will be the opening keynote speaker discussing the anti-corruption measures proposed by the Czech Government.

Mr Moroz does not represent any political party. Prior to his appointment to high office on 13 July 2010, he was Managing Partner of Moroz & Partner and a senior consultant to Pinkerton CR. He also served as an adviser to the Interior Minister. Mr. Moroz is a founding member and former Chairman of the Czech Chapter of ASIS International.

On Tuesday 5 April, Hugh McLeod, MBE, Chief Operating Officer, Stirling Assynt will give a keynote presentation entitled "Understanding the Arab Uprisings". In April 2008 Hugh's company Assynt Associates merged to form the new Stirling Assynt International Group (SAIG). This continues the work that Hugh had started in 2003, providing briefing and analysis on Terrorism and Country Risk issues to large companies and government entities with interests in the Middle East, Asia and beyond. He is also closely involved in SAIG's Business Intelligence line.

From 2006-7 Hugh was also Head of Security Intelligence at HSBC. Earlier, he spent 18 years in HM Diplomatic Service, with postings to Islamabad, Accra, Nicosia - where he served as Political Counsellor - and Kosovo. During his service in London his responsibilities included Counter-Terrorism, the Arabian Peninsula and the Former Soviet Union. Before joining the Diplomatic Service he was in the Army for 14 years, where he served as an infantry officer. His final appointment was to the Military Mission to the Soviet Forces in East Germany, where he was awarded an MBE.

On Wednesday 6 April, the closing keynote speaker will be Brigadier Ian Abbott, OBE, Independent Member of the Thames Valley Police Authority who will speak on "Critical Infrastructure: A Public Private Problem". Mr Abbott is a former Army officer with a unique knowledge of global threats, intelligence, crisis management and contingency planning gained from posts in the UK Cabinet Office and the European Union since 9/11. He is fully conversant with the interdependencies between governments and commercial organisations especially in the energy, supply chain and ICT sectors.

Widely travelled over, he has 11 years residence abroad including China and the Middle East. He was a director in the UK Cabinet Office Civil Contingency Secretariat and in Brussels was responsible for the European Union's Policy and Plans to support the European Security and Defence Policy. Prior to his current appointment, he was Director of the Defence Fuels group of the UK's MoD.

The Conference will also include the SRVP Welcome Reception, sessions for Chief Security Officers (CSOs) organised by the CSO Roundtable of ASIS International, and the President's reception.
