Smiths’ IONSCAN 600 is the next generation portable desktop explosives detector for use in global aviation and infrastructure security

Smiths Detection will unveil the IONSCAN 600, its next generation portable desktop explosives trace detector for use in global aviation and infrastructure security, at the ASIS International 60th Annual Seminar and Exhibits on Tuesday, September 30th at 10:00 AM during a press conference.

The IONSCAN 600’s simplified software, cost-effective swabs, and optional sampling wand, reduce the cost and time of screening for a range of high-threat explosives. Its innovative feature is a proprietary non-radioactive Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS) source, which eliminates the need for special licensing, handling or disposal requirements. The IONSCAN 600 also weighs just 23 pounds (10.4 kg) and is equipped with a built-in handle making it easy to carry. Its hot-swappable battery provides continued sampling and analysis capability, allowing it to be used in areas without a power source.

The IONSCAN series is one of Smiths Detection’s most successful trace explosives detector platforms, used around the world from airport checkpoints to mail screening.
