eneo dome cameras from Videor secure the site premises

Around 130 dealers in the new Perishables Centre at Frankfurt turn over 440,000 tons of goods annually, and these supply up to five million consumers in the Rhein-Main area.  Heer GmbH decided to choose equipment supplied by Videor for the surveillance of the spacious premises.

The new site of the Perishables Centre Frankfurt was built when the Frankfurt Großmarkthalle, the central covered market, was converted to become the new home of the European Central Bank.  A major trading centre was created on 128,000 square metres that offered space to wholesalers, importers and hauliers and which meets all of the latest technical and logistics requirements.

As was the case with the former Großmarkthalle, the new Perishables Centre was aimed primarily at resellers and large-scale consumers: over 130 food wholesalers supply fruit, vegetables, international delicatessen specialities, organic products, poultry, fish, meat and dairy products to an average of 3,000 customers (wholesalers, catering trade, large kitchens, hotel sector, food retailers).

Number-plate detection and analysis of specific situations

The operating company FRIBEG opted for video surveillance to secure the huge area around the two 300-metre long building complexes.  The responsible planning agency selected components according to a very detailed specification and prices schedule, the decision was made to opt for CCTV technology provided by Videor.

The Fastrax Domes and eneo VKC-1311 cameras with high light sensitivity and a 5–50 mm lens installed by Heer GmbH now observe all areas in the spacious premises, including the access zone, goods receiving department and the surrounding parking areas.

Sharp pictures even at the break of dawn

The high-resolution EDC-141 Domes are fitted to the lamp posts and provide continuous documentation: whether at the access and exit areas when one of the 1000 employees parks on the company car park, customers want to enter the premises secured by a barrier or when hauliers deliver good to the loading ramp. They have a focal range of 4.1-73.8 mm (F1.4) at a light sensitivity of 0.7 Lux. Additionally, there are switchable camera parameters for day and night operation, which pays off when work starts at three o’clock in the morning.

Guard tours have been programmed so that sensitive areas are regularly viewed. The cameras move to the individual positions at speeds up to 380°/sec.  Number plates can be looked at with pinpoint precision whenever this is required to identify a vehicle.  Video signals from the domes are transmitted by VZS-5 Twisted-pair Transmitters, they are fitted in a 4.9” dome housing with integral heater and fan for outside usage.

Events documented as evidence

When the system was first taken into operation the security firm was surprised when the domes’ zoom features allowed the vehicle MOT date to be read on a truck 400 metres away:  “The zoom is phenomenal – it is even possible to read the number plates of cars passing on the A661!”

The video surveillance was welcomed unanimously as a supporting measure: “Specific situations on the site can now be placed under surveillance and analysed. Identification and documentation can be provided as evidence when there is an alarm.”
