Clever protection by an eneo DXR Digital Recorder and VKC Cameras

Robbie Williams has one, and german actress Verona Feldbusch is also thrilled by the cute two-seater: the SMART fortwo is the top-selling small car in Germany.  The new eneo DXR Recorder generation gives protection to the largest SMART centre in Europe.

The largest SMART centre in Europe recently opened in Cologne, Germany.  An eneo CCTV integrated solution delivered by Videor assists in surveillance for the imposing building complex and its 22-metre high SMART tower.  The system installed by the Cologne company West Alarm GmbH impressed both SMART GmbH as well as Ludwig Kubina, Managing Director of Kubina Car Sales GmbH. Kubina and IT-boss Alexander Porschen were also impressed by the installed DXR-16N/750CDRW Recorder.

The 16-channel recorder delivers fluid video recording and offers numerous connection options at recording speeds up to 100 fields/sec., even in multi-channel mode.  For instance, external data storage systems and RAID systems can be connected over the SCSI interface, and POS/ATM-connection is also possible.  Plus there are 16 alarm outputs as well as three USB 2.0 ports.

“The recorder is easy to operate even though it has extensive functions. The CD recorder and four spot monitor outputs as well as the PC monitor output are very practical.  We were also impressed by the option for remote surveillance by using the RAS Software included in the shipping package – this means we have all of our smart runabouts in view even from afar,” emphasised Kubina.

No more hour-long searching for pictures

West Alarm boss Stefan Berger also places trust in its compact size – his company’s vehicle fleet comprises 17 SMARTS.  However, experience gained in similar projects was decisive when it came to awarding the contract: “It is difficult to imagine, but wheel rims were stolen there, airbags removed or parked customer cars were scratched.  Video surveillance will quickly become a critical factor when the dealership then has to prove that it was not responsible for the scratches.”

And just like Kubina, Berger is also impressed by the flagship of the new DXR series: “100 fields per second when 16 cameras are used is a quality feature not offered by every manufacturer, but it plays a decisive role for picture usability.  Plus, the new “Motion Search” and “Museums Search” search functions finally makes hour-long looking through recordings a thing of the past.”

Everything in view day and night

A total of 16 eneo VKC-1327IR surveillance cameras in the new Candid Jr. Housing on the 12,000 square metre premises ensure that analysable pictures are delivered even in darkness.  The day/night cameras with a resolution of 380 TV lines have integral 850nm infrared LEDs and are connected over two-wire transmitters.  In darkness the cameras automatically switch over to black and white mode with infrared LEDs, and they also cover the used and rental cars in addition to new cars and customer cars.

Kubina already has the next target in his sights now that this project is finished.  The company has been running two SMART agencies up to now, and “KFZ-Betrieb” trade magazine recently awarded it the “2004 Sales Award” for being the best car sales dealership in Germany.

The new SMART Pilot Centre now means that it is now possible to achieve first place in the European sales figures: “After all, the Cologne SMART Centres have the strongest sales figures in Germany along with Berlin, and they have a market share of 30 percent – only Rome has a higher SMART market share in Europe.”
