Leveraging Verint IP surveillance solutions, Guayaquil is able to extract video easily and send it to the appropriate agencies
Guayaquil's network now includes more than 800 IP cameras, all of which are driven by Verint VMS

Verint® Systems Inc. recently announced that the city of Guayaquil, the largest city in Ecuador, is experiencing significant benefits after expanding its network of Verint IP-based video surveillance technologies last year.

As a critical component of the city’s proactive Safe City initiative, the Verint platform delivers tangible benefits, including expedited investigations, the ease of sharing of information with first responders and a reduction in criminal activities. Officials directly involved with these advances consider the solution a necessity to conduct business and help ensure the safety of the city.

As the nation’s principle commercial and manufacturing centre and home to 3.74 million people, Guayaquil is located on the western bank of the Guayas River and is the capital of the Ecuadorian province of Guayas. Security and safety initiatives are spearheaded by the Guayaquil Corporation for Public Safety (Corporación para la Seguridad Ciudadana de Guayaquil, or CSCG), a non-profit municipal corporation that coordinates public safety efforts throughout the area.

Video surveillance plays a key role in helping the City of Guayaquil keep its citizens and tourists safe. As such, CSCG worked with systems integration firm Union Electrica Ecuador to expand its system by increasing the number of Verint IP Cameras in its surveillance network to 475. The robust network now includes more than 800 IP cameras, all of which are driven by Verint Video Management Software™ (VMS).

Leveraging Verint IP surveillance solutions, Guayaquil is able to extract video easily and send it to the appropriate agencies, resulting in faster, more conclusive investigations. It can also identify and rapidly respond to risky and/or volatile scenarios, and direct the appropriate agencies, such as fire and police. Advances in traffic control and streamlined waste management collection represent other benefits the city and its residents have experienced.

“Guayaquil benefits from a visionary organisation that places great importance on technology investments that help improve security,” says Gustavo Zuñiga, president, CSCG. “Our vision for the city goes far beyond our current system. Due to the success of the Verint surveillance network and the role it’s played in crime reduction, we plan to continue to build onto the system.”

For CSCG, IP surveillance solutions offer greater capabilities than analogue systems, helping officials locate and extract video easily and send it to the appropriate agencies for collaborative, more conclusive investigations. With the Verint Video Management Software solution, users can help streamline workflow within the security operations centre and make sense of the vast amount of video and security data collected daily. It offers policy-based video distribution, networked video viewing and investigation management to help users rapidly detect, act and investigate security breaches and other threats. An intuitive user interface minimises training requirements and streamlines system management.

“With the help of Verint solutions, the city of Guayaquil is able to expedite investigations and minimize crime, helping ensure a safe environment for visitors and residents,” adds Steve Weller, senior vice president and general manager, Verint Video and Situation Intelligence Solutions™. “In environments with complex security needs, organisations can gain great value from open, scalable solutions and negate the need to reconfigure their entire system as business requirements evolve. Verint technologies help reduce complexities and costs, and enhance flexibility for future expansion, usability and value.”
