The VMS helps streamline video security operations and helps users analyse video and security data |
Verint® Systems Inc. recently announced that St. James School, a private Catholic school in Stratford, Conn., is benefiting from its use of the Verint Video Management Software™ (VMS) solution, boosting security and helping safeguard students and staff. Established 65 years ago to serve the educational, spiritual and social needs of students in grades pre-K to eight, St. James School has continued to grow and make security a top priority.
“After recent tragedies throughout the education community, we began to investigate surveillance solutions more seriously, recognising the need to make our campus more secure and safe,” says James Gieryng, principal, St. James School. “With Verint’s video management solution, we are able to effectively monitor our entire facility— inside and out—to better protect our students and faculty.”
In December 2013, the school replaced its previous camera solution that only monitored the front entrance with new video surveillance cameras inside the building, as well as outside to cover all key areas, including entrances, the gymnasium, cafeteria, parking lot and playground. Each of the cameras is integrated with Verint Video Management Software.
With the new Verint solution, St. James School can monitor live and recorded video from desktops and two large monitors in the main office. The solution also helps streamline video security operations and helps users analyse video and security data. It offers policy-based video distribution, networked video viewing and investigation management to help staff rapidly detect, act on and investigate security breaches and other potential threats. An intuitive user interface minimises training requirements and streamlines system management.
The main goal of the security solution was to improve student and staff safety and prevent unauthorised access to school property, including the fenced-in playground during after-school hours.
“St. James School is dedicated to offering students an enriched academic and spiritual experience in the safest, most secure environment possible,” says Steve Weller, senior vice president and general manager, Video and Situation Intelligence Solutions™. “By leveraging the image clarity, advanced features and manageability of the Verint platform, school administrators can help effectively protect staff and students from potential threats.”
