Utilities and power companies throughout North America can feel safer knowing that Traka USA has launched their new web initiative to improve security throughout the industry with smart alternatives for the risks of conventional key use.

The energy industry has a number of companies who rely on conventional keys, putting their organisations in danger because of sub par key management, as well as the risks that having large amounts of keys present. Traka helps these organisations manage keys by controlling who has access to them and when.

To raise awareness about solutions for power and utility providers, Traka launched a web resource, trakaenergy.com. Throughout the site, visitors can explore Traka’s expanded industry products and solutions. With these systems, site operators can be sure keys are controlled and the company’s most valuable assets are safeguarded at all times with key management systems and access control products.

Bristol Water, a utility industry leader, with supply to over a million domestic users, took advantage of Traka’s systems to manage all of the critical keys in their 14 raw water reservoirs, 16 treatment works, 164 pumping stations and 139 covered water storage reservoirs.  With so many sites and the corresponding risks, the amount of keys and transactions needed to be accounted for, which Traka did by installing 23 cabinets networked to a central management point.

Martin Harvey, Security Manager at Bristol Water, has responsibility for everything from padlocks on perimeter fences to risk assessments and management; including all security contracts. “We knew we had to do something about key management – it is a utility wide problem – Traka has enabled us to address these issues immediately and to great effect.”

The new resource also includes in depth overviews of Traka’s innovative products for key management and access control, which allow companies in the sector to protect assets of any shape and size.
