Amongst the company's most recent projects is the design and installation of an access control solution for X-Pand International Freight Limited, undertaken by Index Security Systems Ltd, one of TDSi's installation partners, in August 2009.
Established in 2000, X-Pand is one of the UK's leading international freight forwarders, offering customers total flexibility in the choice of routings and providing the fastest, safest and most cost effective transport solutions whether by air, sea or road.
In 2009 the company moved to a new location in Egham, Surrey, where there was a requirement for new security systems to be installed prior to the commencement of full operations. Having installed the building's intruder alarm system, X-Pand called on Index Security Systems to review and address its access control and CCTV system requirements.
X-Pand's Operations Director, Ian Brown explained: "As we are one of the companies on the Department for Transport's list of approved, regulated agents, we undertake to comply with a wide range of criteria - including the control and monitoring of access into our warehouse areas and movement within them".
Paul Raybould of Index Security added: "When I conducted the initial survey with Ian of X-Pand, it became quite evident that the TDSi MICROgarde system was the appropriate solution. MICROgarde is competitively priced, easy to install, is supplied with feature-rich free management software, and we could take advantage of the existing IT network to reduce our cabling requirements. We have been installing TDSi systems since 1982 and MICROgarde is a real winner."
MICROgarde is a fully networkable controller, providing a cost effective, high performance solution that delivers many of the benefits of much larger systems. Featuring distributed intelligence, the controller operates as part of a system network, providing users with full control and event reporting.
Whilst MICROgarde can operate with a wide range of TDSi or 3rd party readers, for X-Pand, EXproxcards and readers were specified, giving an excellent reading range and proven reliability - and providing the company with an eventual operational capacity of 5,000 card holders, if required.

Delivering great flexibility, MICROgarde features an automatic fire door release for selected doors (upon an active input) and can be configured with variable lock times to suit individual needs and ensure full compliance with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).
Supplied with intuitive PC software, MICROgarde is easy to install and maintain, without the need for extensive training. For X-Pand, the system has been connected directly to the company's IT network, allowing easy access to event reporting, customised to suit the specific needs of the business.
Ian Brown concluded: "We're delighted with the quality of the installation, the security and control that the systems provide and the management information that we are able to access. As one of the UK's premier forwarding companies, every aspect of our business must reflect our quality ethos and I'm delighted to say that our security systems fully meet these exacting standards".
