Tamron Co., Ltd., a specialised manufacturer of optics and an industry leader in the security/surveillance products, announces development of two 1/1.8" 2MP ultra high resolution fixed-focal lenses for FA/ Machine Vision applications.

Development concept

High mega-pixel-count cameras that are deployed for an array of machine vision applications, including chip mounters, various types of test equipment, machining centres and the like, are rapidly accelerating the speed of migration toward higher-image-quality models that serve the needs of further advanced applications.

Tamron endeavoured to satisfy those needs by virtue of expanding its line-up of mega-pixel lenses comprising of four high-resolution 1/1.8" 2MP fixed-focal-length models for FA/Machine Vision (M118FM08, M118FM16, M118FM25, M118FM50).

In the years since the launch of those products, diversification and sophistication of the vision systems has become increasingly prominent, calling for a broader range of product assortment to address such needs. Furthermore, it has also become evident that use of those lenses has also become diversified being combined with camera models equipped with multiple sensor formats that were not necessarily included in the targeted imager size format. This opened up a new vista for the product portfolio.

In light of this trend, Tamron has developed two new 1/1.8", 2MP fixed-focal-length models: 6mm (M118FM06) and 12mm (M118FM12) ultra-high performance lenses for FA/Machine Vision applications. The high-end fixed focal series in this category will be expanded to six models from the current four to augment the scope and to enhance the versatility of applications to satisfy the growing needs of customers.

Looking ahead, Tamron is determined to continue developing new lenses, keeping pace with the evolution of image sensors toward higher pixel density and the diversification of applications in the FA/Machine Vision settings, with higher quality and greater versatility.

Key features

1. Higher-quality image capture at close distance range

  • Further improvement in image quality at closer distance range most commonly used
  • MOD of 0.1m remains unchanged

*Same as the preceding models (M118FM08, M118FM16, M118FM25, and M118FM50), the new models offer the following features:

2. Compatibility with 1/1.8" and 1/2" 2MP FA/Machine Vision Cameras

3. Sophisticated optical design to boost high image quality

  • Maximising performance of 2MP FA/machine vision cameras
  • Distinguished uniformity in resolution and contrast from centre to corner due to the latest optical design technology
  • Compact form factor

4. Easier installation

  • Three positions provided for the locking screws locations (focus and iris respectively) for ease of installation

5. High-precision, high-quality mechanical construction

  • Designated optical design performance ensured with high-precision components manufactured with advanced process technology
  • Robust construction employed for the core structural barrel components and lens fixing mechanism to maintain performance even in environments with persistent vibration
