Tamron Co., Ltd., a specialised manufacturer of optics and an industry leader in security/surveillance products, announces the launch of a near-IR-corrected Vari-Focal lens for 5 MP cameras.

Development concept

Cameras for the security/surveillance market have been rapidly shifting gears towards high-pixel-count models, and device manufacturers have been accelerating their efforts to cater to the needs for higher image quality. Recognizing such trends in the market, Tamron vigorously continues working on development of new products that efficiently serve such diversifying customer needs.

It is evident that the main stream of the camera market today is skewed to mini-domes and/or housing-integrated forms, migrating from the conventional box-type. While Tamron is actively exploiting opportunities in that vein, solid and steady demand for the box-type cameras should not be underestimated because of availability of advanced features and performance that can only be provided by those cameras coupled with interchangeable lenses of high caliber. With an optimal combination of the two key components, acquisition of the best possible image quality is ensured together with versatility in installation under any circumstances and conditions on-site. Distinguished reliability and longevity of such systems ensure secured surveillance of public scenes and critical facilities for years to come.

Recognising such market trends and customer needs, Tamron is launching a new standard Vari-Focal lens tuned for 5 MP cameras with Near-IR compatibility. Among a whole variety of installations where high quality of the captured images is a prerequisite, those in the ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) arena are expected to be of critical importance, especially where the capability for identification is crucial.

As a leading manufacturer of high-performance optics with discernible quality, Tamron is committed to continuing development of new lenses that would better serve the needs of a whole array of customers.
