The City Council (DCC) has selected AMG Systems to provide its fibre optic transmission network for traffic management and control

AMG Systems Ltd. has been contracted by Dublin City Council (DCC) to supply its new innovative fibre optic transmission system Guardian-LiteTM 3700 for traffic management and control of Dublin City and surrounding motorways.

This announcement follows AMG's breakthrough in launching the world's first fibre optic transmission system to integrate Ethernet with high quality uncompressed video.  This was subsequently selected for the UK Highways Agency's National Roads Telecommunications Services (NRTS) project.

In an open tender competition covering all of the DCC traffic department fibre optic transmission needs around Dublin, AMG Systems was chosen for the supply of drop and insert fibre optic transmission network equipment linking CCTV, traffic signal controllers and other traffic management equipment to the Council's control room.

AMG equipment is already installed in the Dublin area, having been chosen initially to supply the real-time, digital video and data network for the traffic cameras and signal controllers on the M50 Motorway.  Later installations cover the M1, N11 and some city centre cameras.  The new tender builds on those installations, extending the existing camera surveillance networks and adding new projects.

"AMG's highly-developed system for the M50 gives us an exceptional degree of insight and control, essential requirements in our traffic management strategy," says Brendan O'Brien, Head of Technical Services at the Council.

"The uncompressed video stream from each camera gives us a real-time view of our traffic flows.  We can also monitor the progress of the emergency services in dealing with any traffic incidents, benefiting both those immediately involved and other motorists."

"When we looked at our fibre optic transmission requirements for this year, we realised that AMG's systems - particularly with the new Ethernet capability - would allow us to continue innovating as we expanded our state-of-the-art traffic control network."

"We are very happy to be chosen again", says Alan Hayes, Founder and Managing Director of AMG Systems.  "Brendan and his team in Dublin are among the first wave of users to realise the advantages of real-time, digital video transmissions.  After leading the way, they are now able to see many others relying on the innovative dual redundancy and self healing capabilities of our products, which makes them particularly useful for complying with the requirements of round-the-clock operations."
