Remguard remote monitoring secures Spinney Motorcaravans in Cheshire
RemGuard Visual Management's remotely monitored CCTV protects Spinney Motorcaravans from unwanted intruders
Controlling Caravan Crime

Closer to home, due to the growing threat of crime, Spinney Motorcaravans in Cheshire has moved from the early days in the 1970s of open frontage, with no walls in sight, to a situation now where the very latest remotely monitored CCTV, provided by RemGuard Visual Management, protects the site from unwanted intruders, particularly overnight.

Said Nick Holland, Spinney Motorcaravan's Managing Director: "When we started the business, site security really was minimal but this was understandable as crime simply wasn't a problem, back then organised gangs travelling out of the big cities to try to steal a motorhome was simply unheard of - the same definitely isn't true now!"

With up to 200 motor caravans on-site at any one time it is not surprising that security is taken so seriously.

Added Holland: "The move to a new purpose-built site gave us an opportunity to design-in security measures from the start. We put in a series of walls, a personnel fence around the complete border of the site, and sturdy access gates - essential with a frontage of 200 metres. By 2001 it was suggested to us by our insurers that CCTV would be a better option given the size of the site than a night watchman."

The result is that today Spinney has adopted a remotely monitored event-driven CCTV system linked to RemGuard's Remote Video Response Centre (RVRC) out of hours. So far Spinney's experience with remotely monitored CCTV has been a positive one. The latest RemVu Aquila transmission equipment which is connected to the CCTV cameras and detectors is extremely flexible allowing images to not only be supplied to the RVRC but also giving Spinney the ability to monitor on-site activity locally when the dealership is open.

According to Holland: "This intelligent CCTV solution has proven its worth helping to detect and crucially lead to the arrest of two thieves on site at night. In another incident images helped the police to catch two more individuals and, vitally, recover stolen caravans."

Facing the Challenge

Moving ahead with a RemGuard remotely monitored, detector activated, CCTV which meets the BS 8418 standard, security managers can have the peace of mind in these economically challenging times that comes from knowing that their sites have been, cost effectively, transformed into a secure, controlled environment, ready to meet the threat of attack.
