Theia’s Image Resolution Calculator allows users to input video surveillance parameters, and provides the corresponding image resolution
American Dynamics licenses Theia's award winning Image Resolution and Lens Calculator

Theia Technologies is pleased to announce that American Dynamics is making Theia's award winning Image Resolution and Lens Calculator available on their website. Theia's Image Resolution Calculator is a tool that allows users to input video surveillance parameters, and provides the corresponding image resolution.  Users input the camera resolution, sensor size, lens choice and one of 3 variables - camera distance, resolution, or field of view needed. The tool calculates image resolution and returns an image at the corresponding resolution to help the user understand what level of detail can be seen using the combinations of variables.

According to Steve Carney, Sr. Product Manager of IP Cameras and Encoders for American Dynamics, "As the industry moves to higher resolution cameras and lenses, many users are still unfamiliar with what can be seen in a megapixel camera image. This tool will be a significant help to integrators and specifiers as they plan installations, camera counts, and scene coverage. American Dynamics is pleased to provide this valuable tool to their customers from their website."

Theia's calculator enables video surveillance integrators and systems designers to quickly and conveniently understand whether a combination of video surveillance imaging equipment meets the resolution and area coverage requirements of an application. The calculator is unique among online tools in that it provides a dynamic image for a better understanding of what to expect from user inputs. No other lens calculator offers a representative image to help the user understand image quality and resolution. It gives a designer a good indication of whether their proposed choice of equipment will work prior to installation and testing, helping to avoid product specification mistakes and costly system rework. Theia has applied for a patent for the calculator and its unique image resolution simulation functionality. The calculator app' version for iPhone and Droid was honored with the ISC New Product Showcase award for Tools and Hardware earlier this year at ISC West
