PCSC, a leading supplier of products and services for electronic access control and facility management applications in domestic and international markets, recently announced the next evolution in Fault Tolerant system products, the Single Door Module (SDM), complimenting the existing DDM (Dual Door Module). The SDM is based on a development partnership between PCSC and HID Global, the trusted worldwide leader in providing solutions for the delivery of secure identity.

Utilising PCSC’s patent pending Fault Tolerant system design and HID Global’s Edge networked access control technology, this product offering represents the world’s first Fault Tolerant single door controller and reader combination. Unlike other systems, the integrated Fault Tolerant Architecture is ideal for a wide range of applications, including small to enterprise. A standard PoE interface offers an easy, low-cost installation access solution. The “single cable” setup provides for: communications, power, reader, controller, door lock output, door position and request-to-exit inputs. The SDM, utilised in conjunction with PCSC’s LiNC NXG (Next Generation Software) and the Fault Tolerant Master controller, provide an access system that exceeds most security requirements.

“This SDM architecture will target applications that until now were not found in other single door access points. By incorporating the Fault Tolerant architecture into the EDGE, the system is able to take advantage of higher security features such as Two Man Rule, Supervisory Access, Escort Controls, 3 Levels of Anti-Passback, including Global Anti-Passback, Global input/output linking, Handicapped Access, 365 Holidays, PoE, in addition to being FIPS and TWIC-compliant. End users will benefit with lower installation costs and simple security architecture design,” said Alan Kosaka, Vice President of Engineering for PCSC. “The FT architecture also adds to the capacities of the Edge. We are no longer bound to specific card or history capacities. By combining ‘FT/SDM' and Edge, we are able to support card and history capacities well over 500,000.”

“As an advanced solution, PCSC’s high availability Fault Tolerant Master controller demonstrates how partners that embrace EdgeTM can realise significant customer value enabled by HID’s networked access technology,” said Charles Ross, Director of Sales, OEM Channel, HID Global. HID Global’s Edge is the next evolution in access control hardware solutions. A true IP solution the meets the demands of open architecture, IP-centric environments, Edge provides fully distributed intelligence and decision making right to the door, leveraging the IT infrastructure to the maximum extent possible. Edge configurations are exactingly constructed for Host environments, as well as single door applications with a wide range of unique benefits. The SDM will debut and be exhibited during ISC West 2009 at both PCSC and HID Global’s booths.
