Panasonic USA unveils new HD visual communication remote conference system at ISC West
Panasonic's HD system employs H.264 compression for high efficiency in law enforcement and security applications

Panasonic System Networks Company of America was demonstrating its new HD visual communications system (KX-VC500) at the ISC West show in Las Vegas. The new full HD system dramatically enhances the distance collaboration capabilities afforded by conventional video conferencing systems. The system is ideal for general business applications by greatly reducing the time and expense of travelling. Additionally, the system is ideal for specialised applications in the law enforcement, prison and court systems by offering a safe and cost-effective way to interview detainees without leaving secured environments. 

"Panasonic's new HD visual communications system's high definition video and 360° spatially accurate audio are truly impressive, which make this system ideal for a number of demanding applications," said Bill Taylor, President of Panasonic System Networks Company of America. "This is not just a conference phone with video - it's a new collaborative experience in remote conferencing."

Panasonic's HD visual communications system employs H.264 video compression to efficiently transmit HD video and audio using roughly half the bandwidth of competitive systems. Additionally, the system's flexibility and scalability accommodates a wide range of HD displays, from small-scale desktop LCDs to a 150" HD Plasma, or HD projector. It also allows for multiple HD cameras to be utilised, so a second camera can be used as a document camera or to send images of a specific activity or application. The HD visual communications system also allows full-motion, high-resolution video to be transmitted from laptops connected to the system.

"The mobility provided by using secondary portable HD cameras and the scalability of this system are potential game-changers for a variety of applications, opening up a broad spectrum of new collaborative possibilities," continued Mr. Taylor.

The HD visual communications system is comprised of a Panasonic 50-inch full HD Viera plasma TV, a codec, two HD video cameras, 360° HD audio microphone, VPN router and an intuitive remote control, along with standard cables and accessories. It includes on-screen guidance and one-touch memory keys for frequent meetings, and also includes both on-site and remote technical support from Panasonic.

The Panasonic KX-VC500 HD visual communications solution will be available in April 2010.
