A new Panasonic in-car video surveillance system allows police forces to capture footage through 360º using up to five cameras simultaneously.

The MK5, or Arbitrator, is a solution aimed at police forces looking for an efficient way of recording footage whilst on the road.

The video processing unit automatically starts recording when triggered by an incident, such as activating flashing lights or the opening of the back door.

The system includes up to five freely controllable, full HD video cameras with up to x30 optical zoom and an ultra-wide angle fish eye lens, as well as an on-board recorder, ensuring maximum clarity and the best possible chance of capturing admissible video evidence.

Gerard Figols, Marketing Manager at Panasonic, said, “The system allows officers to view and operate the cameras from the front of the car and offers a variety of features to suit the surroundings, including high sensitivity in challenging light conditions and super-high resolution at 1080p/30fps full HD.”

The MK5 is compatible with wireless, body worn cameras and microphones, offering a single storage point for audio visual evidence within the vehicle. The online portal allows simple searching using dates, keywords, officer IDs or triggers.

Recorded footage can be transferred wirelessly to an archive, such as a PC at the station where the data can be analysed and incidents searched in detail. The data can then be exported into DVD, WMV or RAW video files. This type of surveillance video capture is ideal for use during criminal investigations.
