Righton, leading metals and plastics supplier
Optex's Redwall V detectors
secure Righton
For 100 years the name of Righton has been associated with the supply of quality semi-finished products. Originally a stockholder of copper and copper alloys, Righton has successfully developed its range to become the UK's leading supplier of brass, copper, aluminium, stainless steel, high integrity alloys, industrial plastics and aluminium composite material to industry.

When Gary Davies, Operations Director at Righton, identified a security requirement to install a CCTV system at its new Service Centre in Warrington, he enlisted the help of his existing external security team. This team consisted of Dale Jones, Area Sales Manager, Optex Europe, to provide four Redwall V SIP100 detectors, Gary Killiner, Account Manager, Securitas Alert Services, to monitor the CCTV system, and Neil Fearns, Director, Xcel Fire and Security to supply and install the CCTV system.

This team had a proven track record in working together and had been involved with security at a number of other Righton sites, so it made complete sense to Gary Davies to continue with a tried and tested approach, as he explains: "Since the installation of the new Redwall V detectors, we are seeing a reduction in the number of false activations by around the 75% mark, which is impressive. We selected the new Redwall V detectors for a number of reasons; not only are they aesthetically pleasing to the eye, but they're also in keeping with the modern design of the building, complementing our corporate colours. The PIR detector on the bottom also covered office windows which would have needed additional detection."

The detector's improved electronics along with thermo and light sensors significantly reduce false alarms with no loss in capture rate. This in turn improves efficiency at Securitas Alert Services, as well as reducing the costs associated with false alarms.

The all-new design of the detectors includes improved mounting height options of 4m down to 2.3m, a 3 axis-accelerometer to warn of reorientation and active infra anti-mask for maximum detector integrity, any attempt to tamper with or mask the detectors will be instantly notified to Securitas Alert Services.

After installing Redwall V detectors, Righton experienced a reduction in the number of false activations

Gary Killiner from Securitas Alert Services, who has worked with and co-ordinated the businesses regarding the monitoring for a number of the Righton sites, said: "The new Redwall V detectors are a real bonus to our business as far as false alarms are concerned, and this is a significant step forward in reducing false activations."

Securitas Alert Services offers intruder, fire and CCTV monitoring, and tracking & tracing/lone worker protection. Securitas in the UK and Ireland is not just a market leader in security, but also the knowledge leader in providing customers with tailored solutions specific to the needs of their industry sectors.

Neil Fearns from Xcel has worked with Righton, Optex and Securitas Alert Services for many years: "Xcel Fire & Security Ltd is a long established company serving and allied to the commercial and building trade. We specialise in the installation and maintenance of security CCTV systems, Access Control, Intruder Alarm Systems and Fire Protection. This project was a natural extension of the previous sites we have worked on with this team, and all went very smoothly. We all worked well together."

With regard to the new technology Neil said: "From an installer's perspective, we found the Redwall V detectors easy to install, and very robust."
