Optelecom-NKF, Inc. (NASDAQ: OPTC), a leading global supplier of advanced video surveillance solutions
Optelecom-NKF, Inc. won a major traffic management technology contract for El Fresno Tunnel in Spain
Optelecom-NKF, Inc. (NASDAQ: OPTC), a leading global supplier of advanced video surveillance solutions, recently announced it has won a major traffic management technology contract in Spain. Optelecom-NKF will work with Indra Sistemas, S.A. (Indra), Spain's leading information technology company, to design and deploy a combined traffic monitoring and automatic incident detection (AID) system in the 949 meter long El Fresno Tunnel, located along the A-63 highway in the Principality of Asturias, Northern Spain. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Plans call for the El Fresno Tunnel's local IP/Ethernet network system to utilize eighteen Siqura® TrafficServers™, multiple Siqura dome cameras, located at tunnel entrances, and twenty-two fixed cameras spanning the interior of the tunnel to stream real-time video to a central control room.

The TrafficServer is an award winning intelligent solution for traffic management and incident detection. It offers a combination of incident detection, traffic data collection, and camera monitoring in a single, temperature-hardened module. The TrafficServer provides real-time data and image information for optimal traffic control and accurate incident detection.

"We're pleased to be working with Indra to improve traffic management and road safety in the El Fresno Tunnel," said Dave Patterson, Optelecom-NKF's president and CEO. "Video incident detection is a fast and reliable tool for managing traffic, controlling secondary accidents, and saving lives. Our TrafficServer alerts operators to incidents so they can quickly assess and initiate responses to rapidly occurring events."

The TrafficServer's AID technology extends tunnel operators' eyes and ears to detect abnormal traffic conditions, including stopped vehicles, lane occupancy and flow speed, sudden speed changes, the presence of pedestrians, and smoke.

Indra Senior Account Executive, Julian Diaz Montoya added: "Optelecom-NKF was able to meet the complex needs of this project: To provide the control room with both the images and data to enable effective decision making for optimizing traffic flow and incident detection."
