Optelecom-NKF, Inc., a leading global provider of advanced Internet Protocol (IP)-video network solutions, today announced the Beijing Metro System has selected its technology for a video surveillance and communication system serving Line 1 and Line 2 of the Beijing Metro System.  Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Beijing's two oldest metro lines are being renovated ahead of the 2008 Olympic Games at a cost of 3.7 billion yuan (US$450 million).  The move is aimed at meeting the requirements of the huge surge in passengers anticipated at the 29th Summer Olympic Games.  The two lines have been in operation for more than 30 years but have never been renovated.

The Company partnered with Keybridge Communications Co., Ltd., a large Shenzhen, China-based system integrator to secure the contract.  Optelecom-NKF's C-series codecs will be deployed in a sophisticated system that will deploy 1600 cameras along 46 stations within Beijing.

"I am pleased that the decision to cooperate with Keybridge Communications, a strong local player in China has led to this success," said Edmund Ludwig, president and CEO of Optelecom-NKF, Inc.  "Being selected by a renowned transit authority such as the Beijing Metro is a testament to the technology we offer and the dedicated hard work of everyone at Keybridge Communications and Optelecom-NKF.   We look forward to working closely with Keybridge in meeting the video surveillance and communication needs of the Beijing Metro System."
