The Octavian Group of Companies, the parent company of internationally operating security company, Octavian Security, has appointed solicitor Avi Pawar as its director of global strategy & compliance.

In this new role, the litigation and employment law specialist will head up the Octavian Group's HR and Legal teams as it expands internationally in Dubai, Holland and beyond.

Avi joins Octavian from leading West Midlands law firm, Pickerings Solicitors with five years experience as a practising employment and commercial litigation specialist.  However, by his own admission his best asset is his business acumen, which he has developed from always playing an active role in his family businesses, which include Aeroplas UK - one of Europe's leading plastics manufacturers.

Originally from the Black Country and a law graduate of Nottingham Trent University, Avi says of his new role:

"My role will not only provide the Group with a new level of legal and business management expertise, but it will also help to free up more of managing director Sukhi Ghuman's time in the day to day running of the business, enabling him to do what he does best - expand the business into new markets and sectors and help drive the quality of service beyond client expectations."

Avi joins the Octavian Group at a time of significant growth, with the recent addition of the new service divisions of Octavian Recruitment and Octavian Facilities Management, not to mention the passing of its first anniversary of operations in Dubai.

Sukhi Ghuman, Octavian Group founder and managing director, who was named by the Chamber of Commerce as Nottinghamshire Entrepreneur of the Year for the second time in 2006, says of Avi's appointment:

"The Octavian Group is in a crucial period of its growth, which is why it's more important than ever to have people on board that can deliver.  I have known Avi for a long time and have seen him demonstrate outstanding legal technical competence and also achieve tough business objectives within his own business interests - he will be an integral part of this team going forwards."

"By employing directors of this calibre, Octavian will not only reap the rewards in terms of its compliance and structural strengths, but from having one more individual on its board that does not accept that businesses have limits to what they can achieve."

Avi represents Octavian's third directorial appointment within a year, following the internal promotions of Anthony Henry and Jot Englebrecht as business development director and operations & training director respectively, earlier in 2006.
