The SNC-EM630 cameras from Sony meet the organisation’s demands and requirements, thanks to its full HD resolution

Background

The Administrative Court of Appeal in Gothenburg was founded in 1972 and is located in central Gothenburg. The organisation has around 150 employees and welcomes 5,000–6,000 visitors every year.

The Administrative Court of Appeal in Gothenburg has traditionally only used physical security, and is now opting to use video security for the first time.

Challenge

The administrative courts required a form of regular surveillance. In the past they had managed without visual security solutions, opting for physical guards where necessary. Recently, the organisation has lacked the necessary resources to place guards in the areas where the public is granted access, which consists of several unsupervised rooms and communal areas. Lately, incidents have occurred that created the need for the organisation to implement an improved surveillance solution. The challenge therefore, was to monitor all areas and get a complete overview of the premises and waiting rooms accessible by the public.

Solution

The implementation was performed by the security supplier Gate Security over a 5 month period. The complete solution consisted of several SNC-EM630 Sony Mini Dome cameras and client stations.

Sony’s SNC-EM630 Full HD cameras deliver high quality imagery and are designed with sophisticated functions for daily use. Thanks to the compact design, the units take up very little space and blend in into most environments. The Exmor CMOS sensor on the cameras function well even in dark areas, and every camera is equipped with Sony’s View-DR noise reduction technology. They even have an extended dynamic range that captures wider areas. The installed client stations provide full visibility over all public spaces in the premises.

The camera system has been integrated with the Court’s security alarm system, which prompts alarms in the case of any faults in the CCTV equipment (e.g. if a camera gets covered or obstructed). Any alerts are sent directly to the security staff and alarm centre, ensuring that the solution provides full security for both employees and visitors alike.

Why Sony Professional was chosen

The Administrative Court of Appeal in Gothenburg needed a flexible and affordable solution that also fulfilled their demands on camera units and systems. The SNC-EM630 cameras from Sony meet the organisation’s demands and requirements, thanks to their Full HD resolution, handling of low lighting, large capture area (wide dynamic range) and “dome” design.

The Swedish National Courts Administration and Gate Security were already familiar with Sony’s security cameras, and therefore knew that these units could provide The Administrative Court of Appeal in Gothenburg with the required flexibility, security and low cost.

Not only does the equipment meet all the image quality demands, it also works as a deterrent. This was an important factor, as it creates a larger sense of security for both employees and visitors.

Results

The implementation of the new security system was completed within the set time schedule and budget. The new system meets every demand set by The Swedish National Courts Administration and The Administrative Court of Appeal itself. Gate Security will continue to maintain the system with regular checks twice a year and whenever needed.

“We are very satisfied with the results. The equipment meets our demands and delivers high quality images, which we appreciate. Previously we’ve had problems with various angles, nooks and pillars in the premises, as our reception staff had problems seeing some public areas. But the newly installed security solution practically covers the entire premise,” said Magnus Corneskog, Technology Specialist at the Security and Service Department at The Swedish National Courts Administration.

"The courts need to handle cases
efficiently and with legal certainty.
Therefore it’s very important that
the working environment feels secure
for both its staff and its visitors"

“The courts need to handle cases efficiently and with legal certainty. Therefore it’s very important that the working environment feels secure for both its staff and its visitors. The camera surveillance equipment has a very important role here. Not only does it work to protect individuals and collateral, but it also works as a deterrent that minimises unwarranted behaviour within the courts," said Magnus Corneskog, Technology Specialist at the Security and Service Department at The Swedish National Courts Administration.

“The solution is a useful tool for our security guards, as they no longer need to be present in the waiting rooms in those cases when a more restrictive approach is required. But above all, it provides a sense of security for the reception staff, as they now can monitor all areas that are open to the public. This was one of the main reasons for setting up the security cameras,” said Christer Johnsson, Service Manager at The Administrative Unit at The Administrative Court of Appeal in Gothenburg.

“In conclusion, we’re extremely satisfied and feel that we’ve created a more secure working environment,”said Christer Johnsson, Service Manager at The Administrative Unit at The Administrative Court of Appeal in Gothenburg.

“The CCTV solution, which The Administrative Court of Appeal in Gothenburg has invested in, ranks as one of the best solutions on the market today. The installed security equipment will most probably lead to an increased sense of security in The Administrative Court of Appeal in Gothenburg’s premises. We’re excited that we have been trusted to provide a user friendly and high quality security product to such an important institution,” said Thomas Rasi, Gate Security’s owner.
