Zwipe will help the Alliance in providing industry programmes to ensure successful worldwide adoption of specifications |
Zwipe recently announced that it has joined the FIDO Alliance, which was created in 2012 to address the lack of interoperability among authentication devices. The Fast Identity Online (FIDO) Alliance’s mission is change the nature of online authentication by developing technical specifications that define an open, scalable, interoperable set of mechanisms that reduce the reliance on passwords to authenticate users. Zwipe will help the Alliance in providing industry programmes that help ensure successful worldwide adoption of such specifications.
“As the industry continues to learn about our biometric card, it only made sense to join an organisation that is on the front lines of standards and interoperability among authentication devices,” emphasises Kim Humborstad, CEO of Zwipe. “Today, we are seeing mobile devices, wearable technologies and biometrics converging across all industries, from access control to banking to retail. Zwipe is well-positioned to become an integral player in what is becoming the hottest industry across the globe.”
Moving the biometric technology from the reader to the card, Zwipe’s innovative on-card authentication gives organisations the ability to upgrade their access control systems to biometric practically overnight. Eliminating the need to swap out traditional card readers for biometric readers, Zwipe provides a simple and cost-effective solution for biometric access control. The contactless Zwipe biometric card reads the user’s fingerprint in less than one second and, once verified, sends a signal to the reader to unlock the door. This eliminates the risk of lost or stolen cards being used for unauthorised access as well as strengthening the audit trail of accountability.
