LEGIC employees are already using NFC-based badges with several applications on a daily basis. Visitors are also impressed with the mobile phone, which opens doors, orders photocopies or pays for drinks in automatic vending machines.

Since 13th August 2013, LEGIC has been using badges based on Near Field Communication (NFC) – alias smartphones – in addition to card-based badges to open doors or print documents by laying the mobile phone on a reader at the photocopier. LEGIC employees with an NFC badge have the possibility to use all contactless applications. So, besides access control and vending solution, it is also possible to use the follow-me printing function and to control the alarm system via mobile phone. The supported applications are Selecta vending, Canon copying, alarm activation and de-activation and Kaba online and offline access.

Easy to install

The employees use their normal mobile phones. The platform independent solution is available for users of Android phones, Windows phone platforms and Blackberry phones. Thanks to appropriate sleeves, people with an iPhone have the possibility to enjoy the LEGIC solution, too. The advant on mobile applet by LEGIC was installed on USIMs and SD cards. Thanks to the already existing advant infrastructure, the new NFC Badge was successfully up and running at LEGIC in just a few days. The first feedback from employees is positive. Above all, user-friendliness is mentioned.

NFC is worth it for everyone

Klaus U. Klosa, Managing Director of LEGIC, explains: "We are preparing a cloud-based platform which will allow our partners and end-users to use existing LEGIC advant and Mifare applications via NFC-ready telephones." The purpose of this trial was to demonstrate that NFC solutions can be implemented in small and medium companies quickly and cost-effectively, without renewing the entire infrastructure. "We are very satisfied with the introduction and, to be honest, we were surprised at how easily and quickly we introduced the new media. The everyday use of NFC in our own company impresses visitors to the company, too. Even critical representatives fall silent when they see me, for example, printing confidential documents by laying my mobile phone on the machine. There is no need to enumerate the other advantages of NFC in that case", explains Klaus U. Klosa.
