The majority of the traffic lanes will have two stacked bullet-resistant inspection booths created by Delta Scientific

Delta Scientific, the leading manufacturer of counter-terrorist vehicle control systems used in the United States and internationally, recently announced that it is manufacturing and installing 50 custom-design bullet-resistant guard booths, K4 rated swing gates, barriers and bollards for the refurbishment of the San Ysidro Landed Port of Entry (SYLPOE), the busiest land port in the world. Located between San Diego and Tijuana, the port processes an average of 50,000 northbound vehicles per day, the most of any landed port in the world.

“We worked with the architect, The Miller Hull Partnership, and showed them how we could provide a turnkey solution that would meet the site requirements for Customs & Border Protection (CBP), the end user,” explains Jeremy Andrews. “For certain areas, we proposed stock equipment but, for others, such as the booths and a tri-fold gate, we produced custom products.”

Products in the $5 million project include the Delta TT218 beam barricade swing gate, which is used where vertical lifts are impractical and will stop a 15,000 pound (6810 kg) vehicle going 30 mph (48 kph). The high-strength wire rope of the Delta TT212 beam barricade will stop a non-armoured or non-tracked vehicle weighing 6,000 pounds (26.7 KN) at 40 mph (64 kph). The Delta SGC1000 swing gate will stop a 5,500 pound (2495 kg) vehicle travelling 30 mph (48 kph). Delta bollards all meet or exceed Department of State or Department of Defense certifications.

The majority of the traffic lanes will have two stacked bullet-resistant inspection booths created by Delta Scientific for northbound traffic, effectively doubling the capacity of the 24 existing booths. The highly energy-efficient structures have a photovoltaic and Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) roof structure that will shade cars and officers. It also provides for rain and sun protection for the officers in booths. Because of its translucent nature, it allows for natural light thereby requiring no artificial lighting during the day.
